We watered, weeded, checked out the compost, and harvested beans and tomatoes! Next time we may even be able to pick the carrots! The sunflowers are getting so large, they are starting to droop. And create our own little birdfeeder that the kids were able to take home! First, we picked lots of beans and tomatoes. Then, everybody worked on their cheerios-on-a-string! They are perfect for feeding the birds - and so easy! Hannah picked all kinds of beans. Hannah, Tegan, and Elizabeth working on their birdfeeders!

Although it was cloudy, we had a great turnout and there wasn't any rain - perfect weather for weeding, planting beans, and harvesting radishes! We also created our own mobiles for the garden! Allie and Adam planted lots of beans. Owen found a mushroom growing in one of the pots! The morning glories grew back from last year. Squash and marigolds growing in harmony. The Children's Community Garden at the Rochester Public Library. Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Cultivating Kids Garden 2014! We are doing something a little different with our garden this year! Because vegetables take a lot of nutrients out of the soil, and most of our plants are grown in containers it is almost impossible to do a good crop rotation. So this year we are going to give the soil a rest by not planting vegetables at all! Instead we will be planting flowers and other ornamental plants.
