Just another WordPress.com site. Growing in the gospel. Why I’ve embraced the whole Santa thing. Well… I’ve finally given in. I’ve embraced the whole Santa thing. Here’s why. 1 Last year my kids used to look blankly at people who asked what will Santa bring you. 2 Now… though I have NEVER told my kids that Santa brings them presents they are convinced he does. Every year we’re going to make our own Santa pinata – stuff him with lollies and paint him red. Then we’ll hang him up on Ch...But there is someon...

Stop the boats… | Growing in the gospel

https://growinginthegospel.wordpress.com/2010/10/18/stop-the-boats

Just another WordPress.com site. Growing in the gospel. Stop the boats…. On Sunday I preached a topical sermon on refugees and asylum seekers. I titled it Stop the boats… and the circumstances that bring them here: a biblical perspective on refugees and asylum seekers. This is how I was going to start the sermon… but dropped it out because of time:. I hate the slogan, Stop the boats! When I first heard it in the lead up to the recent federal election I was so gobsmacked. It oversimplifies a complex issue.

Just another WordPress.com site. Growing in the gospel. Is it easy to obey the law? Romans 7 and Deuteronomy 30. We were doing the Bible Study on Romans 7 last night and were looking at the Deuteronomy 30:11-20 reference you made. What is the result of prefect obedience to Godʼs commands, decrees and laws? Why might Romans 7 be surprising (even shocking) for a Christian with a Jewish background? What are your thoughts? Thanks for your question (sorry I’m so long in getting back to you). The Israelites do...

Growing in the Family Way

Growing in the Family Way. Chronicling our family's open adoption adventure. People are "Anti-Adoption" you say? Yes, indeed. I've begun to follow some Anti-Adoption Advocates on Twitter and Facebook. Some anti-adoption advocates call adoptive parents vultures. Preying on innocent birthmothers. Although, they say, vultures at least are loyal and caring. We adoptive parents, they say, are more alike to hyenas. Give the child back and help the mother with her needs if you are so upset. At first, I get defe...
