http://theresasteachingtidbits.blogspot.com/2014/09/creating-our-class-promise.html
Sunday, September 7, 2014. Creating Our Class Promise. I can't believe we're starting the third week of school. I'm loving my group of second graders and we've been working hard to set the tone for the rest of the year. In recent years, one of my favorite community building activities has been creating a class promise together. I first found out about class promises when I read Debbie Miller's Reading With Meaning. This year I started by reading my poem,. A Kind and Caring Classroom. By Carol McCloud....

http://theresasteachingtidbits.blogspot.com/2015/07/five-for-friday.html
Friday, July 24, 2015. I'm so excited to be linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five For Friday. It's 11:00 PM as I'm writing this, so technically it is still Friday. It's been a very busy week, so here we go. My mom, my sister and I went to the mall today. Isn't shopping a great summer activity? As soon as I saw it, I had to take a picture of it to post on Facebook. Why? Such a nice family memory and I didn't even spend any money. Lisa, Lynda, Sarah, Crystal, Kayla, and I. They have some wonderful ...

http://theresasteachingtidbits.blogspot.com/2015/03/how-to-survive-difficult-class.html
Tuesday, March 10, 2015. How To Survive a Difficult Class. I was talking with some colleagues in the hall about some of our more challenging classes. One of the teachers brought up the class I had last year. She told me she didn't know how I survived it and continued teaching. I thought I'd share some of the lessons I learned during and since that difficult year. So, how did I survive with my love of teaching intact? Here are a few things that helped me. Poems I've used them this year and they've helped ...

Theresa's Teaching Tidbits: 100 Acts of Kindness Challenge
http://theresasteachingtidbits.blogspot.com/2015/01/100-acts-of-kindness-challenge.html
Friday, January 2, 2015. 100 Acts of Kindness Challenge. Last year, I had a very challenging first grade class. Many of them had behavior difficulties and on the whole, we had difficulty bonding as a class. Classroom management was a challenge and throughout the year, I had to dip into my bag of tricks multiple times. One of my more successful activities involved my Hearts Full of Kindness. I introduced the activity by discussing Acts of Kindness. Inviting someone to play at recess. Giving someone a gift.

Theresa's Teaching Tidbits: Five Chapter Book Read-Alouds My Students Loved
http://theresasteachingtidbits.blogspot.com/2015/04/five-chapter-book-read-alouds-my.html
Sunday, April 26, 2015. Five Chapter Book Read-Alouds My Students Loved. 5 Horrible Harry in Room 2-B. 4 Keena Ford and the Second Grade Mix-Up. 3 The Case of Hermie the Missing Hamster. This book received a rating of 4 to 5 stars from several students. It had just enough mystery and humor to keep my students engaged and eagerly awaiting the next chapter. They worried about the fate of poor Hermie and loved the outcome. After we read this, many of my students became avid Jigsaw Jones fans. Five Things I ...

Thanks, as always, to Doodle Bugs Teaching. Recent events felt a little more personal as I came across this sign. My heart goes out to the city and to the family and friends of the victims of the Charleston shooting. This is one ...

Theresa's Teaching Tidbits: Five for Friday
http://theresasteachingtidbits.blogspot.com/2015/07/five-for-friday_31.html
Friday, July 31, 2015. I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching. With another Five for Friday. It's been a very fun and busy week. On Monday, my niece, Madison, and I headed off to Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We hiked up to a beautiful, but crowded, spot called Laurel Falls. It was an absolutely beautiful day! On the hike back down from the falls, we were lucky enough to spot a mama bear walking through the woods followed by three cubs! I had been wanting to make them editable...

Saturday, August 29, 2015. Five for Friday - A Day Late. So the last two and a half weeks have definitely kicked my butt! I love the way my reading center turned out. It's already become the workspace of choice for many of my students! Speaking of Open House, one of my families surprised me with a gift - a basket full of teacher goodies. How nice is that? What a great way to start the year! My Reading Center bench! I've been eying these with envy on Pinterest for over a year. I finally made my own. I thi...
