General recipe and method, for a strength of about 4.5%-5%. Most people don't make beer this way. I do and it works. Where growing, making and good living come together. Taking stock – June 2014. On Tuesday 3 June 2014 in meta. Like last time I did one of these. I’m totally copying from SwirlyArts. What I’m…. A crochet blanket very much like this one. A stitched memory map of the dog walks we take around our local woods; and amongst other things at pottery, a pair of ceramic wall planters (because my plastic one fell about 12ft and broke) and a series of carved terracotta pots. Orange and mango squash. Out of the windo...

Where growing, making and good living come together. On Monday 18 June 2012 in growing. Since deciding to have a ‘less is more’ approach. This year (and being further encouraged on that path by seeds rotting in the soil and later by slugs. I’ve not felt overwhelmed by the garden this year and it’s given me the mental space to make bigger picture/longer term plans too. Both good things. To fill in the empty spots anyway. Have you done anything different with your garden this year? 18 June, 2012 at 8:37 pm.

Where growing, making and good living come together. Book Review: Stitch Step by Step by Maggi Gordon and Ellie Vance. On Wednesday 23 November 2011 in Featured. It was a moment of serendipity when I spotted this book, Stitch Step by Step by Maggi Gordon and Ellie Vance. The design of the book grabbed me from the outset: the pretty blue/dotty cover; the clear, well laid out tutorial pages; and the stitch galleries, oh my, the stitch galleries. In addition to the colourful thread work, there were also sec...

Where growing, making and good living come together. Washing in winter: ideas for reducing laundry? On Thursday 15 December 2011 in Featured. Some things just get left until spring: throws/blankets get taken out of service, occasional wear that I won’t need for another few months can stay in the washing basket, and bedding etc gets left in the washing basket too until a nice drying-outside day, even if that’s another month (or longer) away. Lazy is good. Around here, underwear gets changed every day, t-s...

Where growing, making and good living come together. Taking stock: a ‘what I’m up to in my absence’ meme. On Wednesday 28 August 2013 in meta. For those not following me on Twitter. A few bits of news might be pertinent for understanding some of these. Firstly, our lovely old man-cat Boron died in June. With stuff from the freezer – there isn’t enough room for ice cream so we need to clear some space! 8221; – it’s surprisingly endearing (all from the library). Um, surprisingly very little at the moment.

It really makes me want to go through and color all of this comic, but I have to stay focused: I have to write it and draw it first, and if I can find time (someday down the road) I’ll color it all then.
