growing up Church of Christ

Growing up Church of Christ. Monday, March 19, 2018. A story of raising hands. About a dozen years ago, I attended a Promise Keepers conference with a friend. One point, before a song or a prayer. The man at the front asked us to raise our hands. I did, but during that song or prayer, all I could think was. I’m not comfortable with this. I’m not comfortable with this. I’m not comfortable with this. But a seed had been planted. So that over the years. In an effort to be more expressive. The city of angels.

growing up Church of Christ: October 2014

http://growingupcofc.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Growing up Church of Christ. Thoughts from an Arkansas boy who ended up in Washington DC. Monday, October 20, 2014. Breakfast with an atheist. Flickr photo by gemteck1. The man sat across the kitchen table from me. He’d come to visit my dad. They’d studied to be preachers together in college. The three of us chowed down on some breakfast. From time to time, the man and I would turn to face the head of the table, whenever my Dad had something to say. And I just sat there in wonder. They went on and on for...

Growing up Church of Christ. Thoughts from an Arkansas boy who ended up in Washington DC. Saturday, March 14, 2015. Photo from TimeTrafficker.com. Sitting in the back of a darkened school auditorium. Film projector whirring off to the right. Surrounded by friends, mostly boys. None of us paying a lick of attention to the movie. And his brand new watch. Which we are passing around. And taking turns pushing a button. To see the time appear in bright red numbers. We have never seen anything like this before.

Growing up Church of Christ. Thoughts from an Arkansas boy who ended up in Washington DC. Monday, July 13, 2015. Tiny fawn . a poem by Cheryl. It’s been a rough day. The hurt I kept hidden. But I saw a tiny fawn. As I rode my bike. Down a wooded path. So frail it stood in grassy shadows. Its mother looking on. From across the way. And there’s a single flower. Blooming in my back yard. That I did not plant. It has sprung up. Cheryl W. Allen. Mike S. Allen. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

growing up Church of Christ: April 2015

http://growingupcofc.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Growing up Church of Christ. Thoughts from an Arkansas boy who ended up in Washington DC. Sunday, April 12, 2015. One of my favorite phrases is … “We remember things for a reason.” I have stolen this from someone, but I’m not sure who. If it’s you … well, thank you. If you ever need an example of how life is not fair … well, there you have it. 8220;Life is a marathon.”. 8220;God thinks you rock! Yes, with an exclamation point! Repeat after me. GOD THINKS YOU ROCK! A staple line in prayers by our friend M...

growing up Church of Christ: The classroom at the end of the hall

http://growingupcofc.blogspot.com/2015/05/the-classroom-at-end-of-hall.html

Growing up Church of Christ. Thoughts from an Arkansas boy who ended up in Washington DC. Sunday, May 3, 2015. The classroom at the end of the hall. 45 minutes before the funeral, I decided to go for a walk. Down the first-floor hallway, past bulletin boards and classrooms and turning left to see an old familiar stairway. And a solid railing. Something good to hold on to on a day like today. And making my way up two half-flights. And realizing I used to be quicker than this, much quicker. But also gratef...

Keeping Austin Awesome!!!: Summer Break From Volunteering

http://caseyblackburn.blogspot.com/2013/06/summer-break-from-volunteering.html

Wednesday, June 5, 2013. Summer Break From Volunteering. This past semester I have been volunteering at a school I hope to teach at after I graduate next year. This group of 3rd graders were so fun and absolutely hilarious at times to work with and I am really going to miss them over the summer. The good thing is I will be back in the fall volunteering in a 4th grade class so I will probably have some of them again! Casey and Katy Blackburn. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A blog about stuff that is important to me. Friday, July 13, 2012. I have one sister and one brother. Kevin has only one sister and no brothers. Besides my dad and my uncle (who remain best friends to this day), I haven't been around that many brother to brother relationships. But with our girls gone this week, it has been an all-boy household around here. I love that our boys love their brothers. Monday, July 9, 2012. A blog about stuff that is important to me. Tuesday, September 6, 2011. Happy Birthday, Kevin! I'm sure I'm going to win "blogger of the year" award this year. Among all the other awards. But, I hope you'll forgive my long lapses of not posting. We've had a lot going on the past week, though, so I have a lot to share now. My husband's birthday was on the 26th of August. Yes, I know, over a week ago. But I'm not going to let it go by unnoticed. Here is what each of the kids wanted to say about their dad.

Friday, August 23, 2013. VA Beach.again this year! As it's been our tradition for the last few years, the entire family (Oma, Opa, brother, SIL, and nieces/nephew) headed out to a week of fun at VA Beach. It didn't disappoint! This picture pretty much sums up how Austin feels about the beach. The second we would reach the walkway to the sand, he would take off running and not stop until he reached the ocean. It was SO WINDY AND COLD this day but Austin refused to miss a day of fun at the beach! Im terrib...

He immediately ran downstairs saying, "It's snowing! He went and grabbed his snow boots from last year (which he wouldn't wear b/c of some reason or another) and shoved them in my face and then proceeded to wait by the deck door. Keeping Austin Awesome!!!: A Day of Many 1st's for Austin

http://caseyblackburn.blogspot.com/2013/09/a-day-of-many-1sts-for-austin.html

Sunday, September 1, 2013. A Day of Many 1st's for Austin. Today was our last day of swimming for the summer. The pool closes tomorrow evening with a HUGE neighborhood party so we decided to get our last bit of summer swimming in today. 1 - Austin would only stay in the tiny, roped-off area that is less than 3 ft deep. Every time we asked him to go in the deeper parts of the pool, it elicited a stark "NO! Today was a complete surprise! I don't know what got into him but we'll take it! So proud of my boy!

A blog about stuff that is important to me. Saturday, August 25, 2012. To my guys - 4 days left. Ok Well I'm posting from an iPad for the first time. A little weird to type on a screen instead of a keyboard. Actually, I'm posting this a day late. I never could get the iPad to work. We are now back in Memphis - tired of driving, tired of eating out, but very thankful to be back safe! After her meetings we went to get her uniform and shoes. Check her out:. Honestly, we are all so tired we don't even care&#...

A blog about stuff that is important to me. Tuesday, June 5, 2012. Art like Romero Britto. Yesterday afternoon, Anderson was bored and wanted me to play with him. That usually means watch him play a video or computer game or play soccer. Not my ideas of fun. I suggested that we do some art together. He was all for that because he loves to draw. He wanted to draw, guess what? Soccer pictures. He is really into designing cool uniforms for soccer teams. Again, not really my idea of fun. Friday, June 1, 2012.

Growing Up Christian -- The Blog

Growing Up Christian - The Blog. Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Upholding the Holiness of God. In Deuteronomy 32:48-52 God’s informs Moses that he is to go up to Mount Nebo, where he will see the promise land and die. God quickly reminds Moses why he cannot enter the land with the Israelites. He recounts how Moses broke faith with him and neglected to uphold the holiness of God in front of the Israelites. I was struck by the phrase “upholding the holiness of God.” What does this mean? This is the role of the bo...

growingupchurched | The thoughts and tales of three church kids

The thoughts and tales of three church kids. July 9, 2014. A question I ask myself often is: If God loves us why does he allow innocent people to suffer? Why isn`t he stopping this? I’m just saying…. June 17, 2014. Are you a Christian? I mean a real Christian as God calls us to be? Just because my Daddy is your Pastor doesn’t mean I am a red target on his back and you are to shoot and fire arrows at me to hurt him. Thursday, May 7, 2009. John and the Creek. Our house on Brambleton Avenue in Roanoke, Virginia was across the street from a large city park. Roanoke is in the Shenandoah Valley and has rolling hills and creeks all through the city. So the park was a wonderful place for my brothers and me to play. 8221; It was probably Mary T. because she did that kind of thing. We called her Mean Mary. Monday, May 17, 2010. Daddy took us to PetSmart last week to "look" at the kittys. This is what we found. A precious little 2 year old kitty named Angel. She was a owner surrender that had been there since January. Her name fit her personality! She was a doll! Angel was extremely gentle, loved Claire, would lick her fingers, and never showed her claws. She was perfect! She slowly realized she was not going anywhere and made herself at home. Now Abby acts like part of the family. She is very well beha...

A Christmas story for a new generation. This is the story of Kristofer Kringle Claus XV, the third and youngest son born to Santa Claus. Growing up in the North Pole, surrounded by candy, cookies and toys, one might think "Krissy" was a spoiled child. Not so, dear reader, not so. There were twin older brothers to deal with, allergies to overcome, and torments to endure from his enemies. Corina Marie Zurcher is the author of the children's Christmas book. And the Christmas book. Egacy, Nobility, Archangels.

There are tears, meltdowns, I can’t sleeps , maybe stomachaches or headaches and an emphatic I don’t want to go to school tomorrow.
