Growing Up in the Garden. What Happens In January. Posted by Growing Up in the Garden. Asymp; 5 Comments. I used to start my tomatoes in late January or early February. Then I met someone who told me they started their tomatoes the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Ever since, I have been starting my tomatoes the first week of January for nice, good sized plants to transplant come March. Continue reading →. My New Favorite Squash. Growing Up in the Garden. Posted by Growing Up in the Garden. Asymp; 3 Comments. It has been over a year and a half since my last post. This site has been sitting on a bookshelf, so to speak, collecting dust. Sitting there while I created lesson plans, graded papers, met with parents, and managed a classroom of 25 fourth graders. Sitting there while my garden withered. No time. But, times change…. Continue reading →. Posted by Growing Up in the Garden. Asymp; 2 Comments. Continue reading →. Monthly garde...

Where the journey takes me. Crafting a simple, sustainable and organised life. Home and away…. July 5, 2015. We came back from our jolly hols in Scotland yesterday. It has been a mixture of hard work in our cottage garden interspersed with a little relaxation and the odd trip out (or two) – more news on this another day. My other mail was an assortment of the usual marketing junk, voting papers for building societies and bank statements which I still get on paper; hidden amongst the pile was my most rece...

Wierdness in the garden, including mine. Blogs and Pages that I like. July 9, 2013. Spring has come and gone and now all of our gardens have transitioned to the summer stage. Here that means everything is starting to fill out their fruits and vegetables. I’ve harvested a few zucchinis and cucumbers and they are hopefully going to continue for quite a few more weeks. The broccoli, turnips and beets have all been harvested and pulled out of the garden. A Big Mortgage Lifter Tomato. Flood of June 2013.

Wierdness in the garden, including mine. Blogs and Pages that I like. June 13, 2013. The ground cherries taste like ground cherries. 8221; “Ground cherries, I decided to try them this year.” She then explained to me how my grandmother used to grow them every year and that you should never pick all of the fruit. That way there will be volunteer ground cherry plants returning every year. The other day, I was inspecting the plants and I found three small berries and one slightly larger one. Next post ».

Wierdness in the garden, including mine. Blogs and Pages that I like. April 28, 2013. Planting Bare root Strawberries. Yesterday was probably the best day we’ve had around here all year. The weather couldn’t have been better and I had a nice long list of garden tasks; what could be better? It was also the day for the Backyard Abundance plant sale. Last year I picked up a pack of ever-bearing strawberries and hope that they will start producing this year. I talk about it in this pos. Water the plants well...

Wierdness in the garden, including mine. Blogs and Pages that I like. April 22, 2013. Earth day has come once again. It is the day we need to be reminded that the earth is not the I breakable spaceship that we treat it as sometimes. Since the weather was good this morning I decided to bike to work and bring a camera along. (Ok it wasn’t an actual camera just the camera on my iPod touch). The water treatment plant is on the left and a small creek on the right. Going under the Benton Street Bridge. This is...
