The State can legislate for the State and the Churches can legislate for the Churches. I can understand why people of the same sex would want to be recognised as “married” in the eyes of the law ie in the eyes of the State. Therefore, I can understand why the State would want to legislate to legitimise same sex marriages. So, why then is same sex marriage different?
