Where am I now? Osaka, Japan…. Really? I’m going to Japan? I’ve been waking up every morning thinking this question since I found out I was chosen in October 2009. I have a lot of gratitude to my friends the Goyette’s for sending me an email inviting me to apply for a Rotary program called the Group Study Exchange Program. Also, to the people at Austin, Texas Rotary who thought I could represent. Just wanted to say Thanks and Hugs infinity! Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Hiroshima, Tokyo. Temples and Shrines pix.

Where am I now? Osaka, Japan…. Really? Kyudo means the “way of the bow”. The Japanese art of archery. As a side trip on one of my vocational days we went to visit a Kyudo dojo or training hall on the grounds of the Osaka Castle park area. The practice targets are called ‘makiwara’ which are housed 28 meters across a grassy area from the dojo floor. The bows ‘yumi’ are made out of bamboo. Wind carry flowers away. We’ll see you again. Bright bold bluebonnet sunset. 4 dogs and a baby. Some chips, sweets and...

Where am I now? Osaka, Japan…. Really? Raw fish with gold flakes on rice. Bento box of raw fish and udon noodle miso soup. Ochazuke: rice, hot japanese green tea, white sesame, nori flakes. The host family I stayed with served this after the main dish Nabe and used part of the remaining hot broth mixed with fresh egg and stired it into the small bowl. Where am I now? Osaka, Japan…. Really? Kyoto: Fushimi Inari Shrine and Ryōan-ji Japanese Rock Garden. We enjoy tea before we walk inside and sit and stare at the garden. Very peaceful and people just sit and chill out. There were still sakura around. I walked around the border, took pictures and by accident backed off the deck. I managed not to hurt anything. Whew! We ended the day by eating dinner near Gion. What a great day with friends! Kyoko, JC and Kasey. Trackback ( 0 ). Comments ( 0 ).

To Southern Africa and Back - GSE District 7010

To Southern Africa and Back - GSE District 7010. Thursday, May 22, 2008. Back on Canadian Soil. Well our trip has come to an end, and with mixed feelings I do say. Such a long way home and with missing luggage, missed flights and total exhaustion, we are happy to be home enjoying family and f riends. And the things we missed so much. Feeling well, showed us a good time when we were looking for one, and educated us about everything we asked. I have made, and share the experience with those that I love.
