Blog of John Sharples guitar repairs. Saturday, 13 September 2014. F style Eastman mandolin needs a new truss rod. Addition of a pin to secure the rod to the anchor was it's undoing. This is exactly where it broke. It's a compression style truss rod meaning it pulls against the back of the neck rather than up against a curved filet. Blog of John Sharples guitar repairs. Thursday, 16 May 2013. 60's Hofner 12 string missing saddle assembly. The bridge was loose and the metal tail piece/bridge plate was missing the screws. I cut a piece of aluminum from a turnbuckle. Shaped it to fit, drilled the holes for height adjustment and cut the slots for the saddles. A piece of Corian was cut into an extruded T shape for making saddles. Saddles were cut and shaped from the corian. Wednesday, 15 May 2013. New CBG's in production.

Blog of John Sharples guitar repairs. Saturday, 28 March 2015. Old Gtretsch flattop - A bridge too far. An old Gretsch flat top started out life with the saddle a quarter of an inch shy of its scale length. A previous repair, avoided top and bridge plate patching by using a pinless bridge. Sadly it didnt last or work that well, I appreciate the idea though. A new bridge could be made with the saddle in the right place and the new bridge pin holes could be drilled without conflict from the original bridge.

The strings are very rubbery/slinky and they move a lot.sooo the action needs to be on the high side. This means the string stretches and plays sharp, so we place the saddle to accommodate this.
