On the lost highway. Finding my way home. I’m all about the coffee houses, part II. But it’s not about the actual coffee. If I were denied coffee for ever more, I wouldn’t mind. On the lost highway. Finding my way home. I’m all about the coffee houses. I’m living in a new area. And that means I need to find a new place to hang out in the daytime. The first candidate is a Starbucks. A turrety castley Starbucks. It’s very small inside but it is a nice location. The new daytime hang out will have to be filled under “to be decided” for a while yet. And so to Regent Street today. I tried the new Shibuya style crossing at Oxford Circus and saw the Christmas lights.

On the lost highway. Finding my way home. I’m all about the coffee houses, part III. Time to go up the hill to Hampstead. I pity the fool who tries to make me walk uphill, so we went by Tube. They have a very minimal Christmas light display in Hampstead. I went into Starbucks as part of my search for a chez from chez. I really didn’t like it. Full of noisy teenagers with their feet on the tables, no water jugs but it did have BT Openzone. We wandered around for a while. It’s very pretty.

Today I thought I would explore the cafés of Primrose Hill, which is on the other side of the main road near where I’m staying. Not a single one was open. And so, since I was there, I decided to walk to the top of Primrose. I got to the top though. It’s much nicer walking down though. All the lovely brownie yumminess, but with no butter! 85g dark chocolate , 70% cocoa solids, chopped into small pieces. Tsp bicarbonate of soda. 100g golden caster sugar. 50g light muscovado sugar. 1 tsp vanilla extract. 100g mayonnaise (I used Hellman’s). Some milk, white and dark chocolate. Brownies with chocolate chunks.

These are lovely and easy to make – you can change the size of them depending on how big you want them, and if you want to make them less healthy you can add chocolate chips or whatever you fancy! It was hard work, but totally worth it🙂 You will need two tins measuring 2 x 20cm, or a thicker one, to make one big sponge which you can then slice in half. 225g (8oz) butter, softened. 225g (8oz) caster sugar. 4 large free-range eggs. 225g (8oz) self-raising flour. Raspberry jam (i used Bonne Maman).
