Pagination of query results in Postgres. Marko's recent blog post. On speeding up count(*) in Postgres sent me to his previous post where I saw a very valid reason from Darren Duncan for pagination of results from a database. The point being that web applications are usually expected to show the page links and allow the user to jump to different pages in the result. Allowing root access in AMIs created/derived from Amazon Linux AMIs. Short answer: Edit /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg. And set disable root: 0. And in /etc/ssh/sshd config. There are a lot of people asking on the AWS forums, and elsewhere, about how to make AMIs derived from Amazon Linux AMIs. Such that the users of the derived AMI can launch an instance and allow root user to login vi SSH. I find it bogus to disallow root access over SSH and then allow ec2-user to access root account without any restrictions!

Windows/Linux to MacBook Pro transition (that failed). And a tip on getting better hardware for half the price. How to cancel an Amazon order. I placed an order on Amazon and I wanted to cancel it a few minutes later (wanted to reorder using the Amazon Store Card). You are allowed to cancel the order from the order details page, but probably since I chose Amazon Prime shipping option, the option to cancel the order vanished after a few minutes. Just a post to show how I procrastinate :). I have this habit of keeping too many tabs open in Firefox, just so that I can read them later. This 51 is much less than 80 tabs that I once had open in Firefox. I open mutiple windows too sometimes to keep a few tabs grouped.
