Tuesday, July 2, 2013. Whether Interest on Late payement of TDS is deductible ? In the income tax act, nowhere it is specified that interest on late payment of TDS is not deductible, unlike non deduction of FBT (u/s 40(a)(ic), non deduction of income tax and interest u/s 234A/B/C thereon and wealth tax. Therefore as per plain reading of bare text, Interest on late payment of TDS should be allowed. So, Interest on late payment of TDS is not deductible as a business expenditure.
