Parent block of Ancaster Weatherbed limestone, around 6 tons before being split, the faint black line marking out a triangle on the right top surface, is where it will be split for me to give my block. Quarry man drilling the stone to be split, he has got a bigger drill than me, damn it. It took him about 5mins to drill one hole, it takes me around 15mins. I think I will do a journal piece in the future to show all these tools in order to describe what they look like and the jobs they do. Started at 1200...

I am generally happy if someone wants simply to visit me in my studio to discuss the work and get a feel for the process. Although my main interest is in sculpture, I would be happy to discuss a commission or potential project in stone that is not necessarily a sculptural one. The stone itself is where most ideas for my work come from, working to other peoples briefs often give me concepts and methods for my own creations. The possibilities for using stone are endless.

Portoro marble, one of a new series of works. My interest in these spikey forms is the fact that you can change the position of the stone, resting the weight on different spikes to create a balance and so changing its apperance. The place where the points makes contact with whatever surface it sits on transmittes the power of the weight above. 12cm x 14cm x 16cm. I Dream of Prickles.

Tuesday, August 18, 2015. This is one of Guy's 1999 "pink" paintings. Even though Guy named it Mediterranean Village, it features peach orchards which is an upstate South Carolina subject for Guy.
