It's an interesting world with lovely writing, but it's populated by 2-dimensional archetypes and no plot. I doggedly kept reading because (A) the world was cool and (B) something had to happen, sooner or later. Right? And took approximately 30 seconds to read. And then the book was over. I set the book down and thought it took you 700 pages of maundering to get to THAT? Triumph, of a sort :).

So Saturday on the drive home from larp my guts hurt. I got home and it hurt. By 1am heather came home and we went to the ER. Long hours shirt story -gall bladder stones. By 5 pm Sunday I was heading to preop. By 7 I was no longer in possession of my gall bladder. Sleep was ok except for them waking me up every 2 hours for vitals.

Fire next door - Jehan du Lac. 21 April 2012 @ 02:39 am. The house next door caught fire tonight. I had gone to bed, was roused by smoke coming in the windows, whooshing flames, people screaming to get out of the house. I live in a triple decker about 15 feet from my neighbors who were on fire. All the people, including two babies, and all the cats and dogs are okay. I'm asthmatic, I inhaled smoke, I'm wired on albuterol. I realize that it is probably impossible to convey to a modern audience the sexual frisson that an Elizabethan audience would have experienced with the boy-actor-dressed-as-as-a-woman-dressed-a. S-a-boy scenario. Theres a mindset that we cant recreate. Even so, there is a lot of interest to explore. How does one man up with doublet and hose and play that part? How does that war with innate nature? What is innate and what is a role?

The continuing story of a knee that's gone to the dogs. Apr 30th, 2013 at 3:16 PM. Once more under the knife, dear friends. I have managed to tear the meniscus in the same knee where I had ACL surgery two years ago. Surgery on May 10th, grumbling already in progress. :) Fortunately the recovery trajectory for this surgery is much better, if all goes well I should be back to normal activity by the end of June. 6 comments Leave a comment.
