My First 10k: Antelopes, Imaginary Lions and Fat Dogs...Oh My!
http://haacksfirst10k.blogspot.com/2009/11/antelopes-imaginary-lions-and-fat.html
Saturday, November 21, 2009. Antelopes, Imaginary Lions and Fat Dogs.Oh My! This morning I went out for my last pre-race "long" run. Julie sent me downstairs to try and get another hour of sleep (bless her), but it was fitful. By the time I got out there it was after 7am and I hadn't eaten or drank anything. Super smart. My two favorite parts of the run were animal related. During mile 4 this young lady ran by me. She reminded me of an antelope. A smiling antelope. She was so fluid; so si...She said thro...

My First 10k: A Brief History of My First 10k
http://haacksfirst10k.blogspot.com/2009/11/brief-history-of-my-first-10k.html
Thursday, November 26, 2009. A Brief History of My First 10k. That Was. Great. My first 10k in the books and it was awesome. I beat my target time (1:10) by at least a couple minutes, so I was really happy with that. I'll get my official time later, but it was 1:07ish on my watch. Nice. Though. I think it actually got colder and windier. Once we got home, I took an ice bath, of course. It felt super good. Except my feet kept cramping up. That was annoying. Know what else was annoying? Haack Goes to Haiti.

My First 10k: Stupid Daylight Savings
http://haacksfirst10k.blogspot.com/2009/11/stupid-daylight-savings.html
Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Sunday we turned back the clocks and it's really been screwing with me. It gets dark out really early at night and bright out really early in the morning. That's kind of how that works. So, I've been staying up too late and getting up WAY early. So dumb. Not looking forward to it. Wowthis has to be my most blase. Entry ever. Blech. Don't worry, it's a phase. A phase that will be BROKEN TONIGHT WHEN I WORKOUT WITH THE FEROCITY OF A LION AND THE SLEAKNESS. Wait, what's a snape.

My First 10k: Do You Always Do That?
http://haacksfirst10k.blogspot.com/2009/11/do-you-always-do-that.html
Tuesday, November 24, 2009. Do You Always Do That? This morning's run went fine. A little short (a little under 2.5, I think), but good. Oh, well. It's not like I'm going to break my leg or anything because of these small nuances. Is small nuances redundant? The best part of this morning might have been the ice bath. Remember, all this is taking place. Before I go to work. Do you do this every time? Julie asked. "What, take an ice bath? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. That F...

My First 10k: What a Week
http://haacksfirst10k.blogspot.com/2009/11/what-week.html
Monday, November 9, 2009. Honestly, this last week has me a little worried. I didn't run last Tuesday (like I said), and then Wednesday night I stayed out really late with friends (birthday party) and didn't run on Thursday. Then, Friday night I left for a weekend retreat in Illinois (at a camp). My intention was to run Saturday morning, which I did, although not very well. All of this adds up in my head. A seed of doubt. Do I actually have the drive to do this? The retreat I went on, while physically ta...

My First 10k: I'm So Freaking Dramatic
http://haacksfirst10k.blogspot.com/2009/11/im-so-freaking-dramatic.html
Sunday, November 22, 2009. I'm So Freaking Dramatic. It's a little embarrassing how nervous I am right now. First of all, I just found out that iPods aren't allowed at the race. If that's true, it's going to make for a long. Race for me. I emailed them to see if it's ok that I use mine since I have no intention of winning. In fact, I'm just trying not to get last place. Literally. I don't want to be last. Unless we're talking about the Kingdom of God. Theology! What the heck is my problem? You're going t...

My First 10k: Routine Schmootine
http://haacksfirst10k.blogspot.com/2009/11/routine-schmootine.html
Wednesday, November 25, 2009. Runners.I need your advice. Usually I run really early. Somewhere between 6 and 7am. The race tomorrow doesn't start until 9am. How much is this going to affect me? What can I expect? Usually I don't eat anything because it's so early, so what should I do tomorrow? Should I have my regular breakfast of oatmeal and a banana around 7am? Should I drink a lot of water in the morning? Thanks for any help/tips you can give me! November 25, 2009 at 6:55 AM. View my complete profile.

My First 10k: November 2009
http://haacksfirst10k.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 30, 2009. Earlier this evening I secured my first gym membership. Gold's Gym. Real excited. Then, about 8:30pm, I ate a Culver's Deluxe, fried cheese curds and a small chocolate malt. This illustrates quite nicely the tension between the man that I am and the man I want to be. So, why do I feel so differently now? Which leads to.what do I like about running? Why do I do it? Or a "way to go! Every now and then? I used to do a podcast where I'd read a chapter of the Bible every day and I'd...

My First 10k: Did You Steal My Engine?
http://haacksfirst10k.blogspot.com/2009/11/did-you-steal-my-engine.html
Thursday, November 19, 2009. Did You Steal My Engine? Here I am, blogging about my best 5k run yet, drinking some Rwanda Musasa coffee (bullrunroasting.com) from Sara Groves and getting ready to go to the travel clinic to see if I need any shots or anything for my trip to Haiti in January. That's a solid morning. 29:17 My first sub-30-minute 5k. Happy running! I didn't use any of those sick gels today, either. Curse you, energy gels! Then I woke up. Weird, right? And that, folks, is all. Antelopes, Imagi...

My First 10k: Three More Sleeps
http://haacksfirst10k.blogspot.com/2009/11/three-more-sleeps.html
Monday, November 23, 2009. That's my bib number for Thursday. I like it. Nice and even. The packet pick-up tonight was unceremoniously delightful. Went in, got my stuff, and took off. The ladies were mostly talking to themselves, which was fine by me. The shirt is pretty cool (way better than the 5k one I got in August) and there were some nice perks in the bag, not the least of which is a free tour admission to the Capital Brewery! Then I thought about the pageantry. Running.no thank you. It's b...Proba...
