At the recent commissioner’s meeting Mayor Randy Teague announced Tuesday night that the commission has received an offer to buy the Westmont Theatre. By Morris Handel and A.J. Rovner. On September 5, 1927, the theatre opened with Lon Chaney’s The Unknown. Where an estimated group of over 5,000 were waiting in line for tickets. Charlie Chaplin’s last silent film, The Circus. The Westmont saw success and failure but due to theatre competition and WWII, the Westmont closed.

Fearing that the Westmont Theatre was headed for demolition, lifelong Haddon Township resident and Rowan University film school graduate Brent J. Donaway set out to capture the vivid history of the theatre. The project started in September 2005 and Brent spent the next 22 months producing/directiong a short documentary on the then 80-year history of the local landmark. The film was entitled,.
