China Deep: December 2006
http://china-deep.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 06, 2006. I read in a travel book about a place called the Zibo Funeral Pits. There, the book said, within a monarch’s tomb, are hundreds of intricately buried dead horses. Seabass asked another colleague of ours if he wanted to tag along as well. His name is Eric. From Boise, Idaho, Eric is skinnier than me. He stands about five foot eight, wears thick rimmed glasses and has a curly black mat of hair. 8220;Are you serious? 8221; I asked him. 8220;What do you drink? 8220;Schweppy....

China Deep: January 2007
http://china-deep.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 27, 2007. Dice uses his precious free time wisely, even better than I previously understood. Moreover, his selection of ski venue, Niseko, was perfect. Seabass and I had never heard of the ski town. Now that we know the resort, we prefer to call it Nisicko. And there was something even more special about these tree stashes: they were within bamboo forests. Skiing through the wiry bamboo was mystical, like we were weightless pandas bouncing down fluffy pillows of powdered sugar. By the n...

China Deep: September 2006
http://china-deep.blogspot.com/2006_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 24, 2006. Seabass suggested we shed light on our new neighborhood, so we threw on our running shoes and jogged toward an area called Shazikou. Seabass had ventured there briefly before but I had never seen it. His only memorable comment about the community was that it reeked of fish, feces and low tide. 8220;Smelziko,” he called it. At one point towards the end, the boardwalk stops abruptly. Only the boardwalk railing exists. The brick walls of a few fishermen’s houses hal...Seabass pla...

China Deep: November 2006
http://china-deep.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html
Friday, November 24, 2006. Xi’an left Seabass and me with some mixed feelings. Xi’an was no Shanghai, and it’s certainly fair to point out that Shanghai was no Xi’an. Basically, we went to Xi’an because it's very old and had a hell of a heyday, on the scale of Cairo, Egypt or Rome, Italy. Seabass trumped my fear though with one simple, “Let’s get the hell out of here.”. Well, it turned out China had the same trip in mind as us, which made sense because we were traveling during a Chinese national holiday&...
