Alan and Jan's Blog 2011. This blog is about Alan and Jan's trip to Nicaragua in 2011. Laquo; Corn Island Pictures. Other things we learnt on Little Corn Island. Tropical islands have tropical storms and everything gets very wet and muddy especially when they go on all day. The path to the casita. Most places close on Sunday and an island of 550 people can support at least 3 churches. Run Down (Ron Don) is the local fish dish which takes 6 hours to make (dunno didn’t try it). What does this mean? Alan sa...

Ecuadorian Reflections | janetlibke

March 9, 2015. A friend asked me about the food and the people in Ecuador so I thought I would write a little more generally, than concentrating on place as I have been. Ecuador uses the USA dollar. This has been a bit hard on us as our dollar is not doing well right now. Food is important to John and I and often we find the day is structured around meals. Generally the food is good. It is always freshly prepared after you order. So one can never be in a hurry. Presentation is always important. There is ...

Vilcabamba and Hostal Izhcayluma, Ecuador | janetlibke

Vilcabamba and Hostal Izhcayluma, Ecuador. March 20, 2015. We were able to take a tourist van from Cuenca to Vilcabamba. A 41/2 hour ride instead of at least 6 hours on two different buses! We eat breakfast, a $4 buffet, and dinner in the open air dining area, again with spectacular views, especially in the evening as the lights of Vilcabamba and San Jose twinkle in the valley below. Lunch supplies we have purchased in town and keep in our room. March 20, 2015 at 10:00 pm. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Cuenca, Catari Province, Ecuador. February 24, 2015. Our first day in Cuenca was spent moving hostals and seeing a bit of the city. The hostal we had booked turned out to be not so great. It is amazing what photography can do for a place! They actually remained crispy for quite a while. We had a good laugh over that. John and I have caught a navy band in the main square playing salsa music. That was a surprise and fun, to top it off, the concert was followed by fireworks! All photos used in this blog ent...

Cuenca, Ecuador con’t. March 7, 2015. Sharing a kitchen and dining area allowed us to get to know some of the other guests a little better. There seems to be a very nice mix of ages in all the places we have stayed. This is partly due to the variety of accommodation that is offered, from dorms to private rooms with or without bathrooms. We are at the stage in life when having a bathroom is a priority. We are now at the Izhcayluma Resort 2 km outside of Vilacabamba. Paradise. March 7, 2015 at 10:09 pm.

Alan and Jan's Blog 2011. This blog is about Alan and Jan's trip to Nicaragua in 2011. Laquo; Pictures from Miraflor. The Corn Islands……. A Night in Leon and Valentines day. We treated ourselves to a taxi from Miraflor back to Esteli at least that way we could see the great views on the way down. After lunch and some indecision we decided to take the bus to Leon, a former capital and still a very political city where the revolution is kept alive by murals, memorials, slogans and graffiti. The bus to Leon.
