Rhine Cruise - New Year 2007/08. Seeking a new experience to celebrate the arrival of 2008, we chose a new year cruise on the River Rhine in Germany. We flew from Birmingham to Frankfurt, bussed the short distance to Mainz and boarded our floating hotel MS Switzerland on Sunday 30th December. Shame on us ignorant Brits. Reducing family responsibilities, no mortgage, and a determination not to grow too old too soon have all made a contribution. French Alps 2002

French Alps - 2002. In the morning we took our photographs before it became busy, to the accompaniment of the birds. The high point (literally) of our tour was the summit of the Col de la Bonette, almost 8,500 feet above sea level. The temperature was 1.5°C and at times visibility in the cloud was a scary five to ten yards. I drove slowly and carefully as if my life depended on it (it did!
