I only had one day to regroup for another trip – to Bettendorf, Iowa and the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival! The Memphis Speed Kings played for the youth education fundraiser, then the Rock Island Roustabouts debuted on Friday, Aug. 5. The Roustabouts - Dave Kosmyna, Doug Finke, Chloe Feoranzo, Katie Cavera and Steve Pikal plus co-leaders J. Barnhart and H. Smith - were a rousing success! We threw that CD into the stereo and enjoyed some fine music. At some point, we had both started thinking about the great bass sound and started discussing the nature of his percussive effect.
