Halting Problems: April 2008

http://haltingproblems.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Practical problem solving including Algorithms, Formal Logic, Data Structures, and various other areas. Friday, April 18, 2008. K nearest neighbors speed up. I was working on implementing the k nearest neighbors. I found that the most time (by far) was being spent on finding the neighbors. Reading in the data initially and deciding on the most likely classification once the neighbors were found were pretty minor, comparatively. My original implementation was something like the following:. Return dot(d, d).

Halting Problems: How Sofia ended up in Computer Science

http://haltingproblems.blogspot.com/2010/09/how-sofia-ended-up-in-computer-science.html

Practical problem solving including Algorithms, Formal Logic, Data Structures, and various other areas. Saturday, September 11, 2010. How Sofia ended up in Computer Science. This is a post I wrote in hopes of contributing to the CompSci Woman blog[1]. I also figured a new introduction would be useful for readers, anyway, since the blog has been quiet lately and a few things have changed in my world. 1]http:/ www.compsciwoman.com/. Halting Problems: Partial fix

http://haltingproblems.blogspot.com/2009/04/partial-fix.html

Practical problem solving including Algorithms, Formal Logic, Data Structures, and various other areas. Thursday, April 2, 2009. New development on the banning. It looks like Google has recognized that it was a bit hasty to just pull tethering apps from the Android Market altogether. Here's what they had to say:. It doesn't really give a definite answer to my original questions. This is great news! April 17, 2009 at 4:36 PM. This comment has been removed by a blog administrator. I'm a Masters student in ...

Halting Problems: Review: Always Innovating's "Touchbook"

http://haltingproblems.blogspot.com/2009/11/review-always-innovatings-touchbook.html

Practical problem solving including Algorithms, Formal Logic, Data Structures, and various other areas. Monday, November 30, 2009. Review: Always Innovating's "Touchbook". While taking notes at conferences and lectures, I have learned two things:. There are never enough outlets to keep the average laptop running all day. Graphical representations are a pain to record with a mouse. Built on open source software. The official operating system, AIOS, is a derivative of Angstrom. January 20, 2010 at 10:33 PM.

Happy Coding of a Happy Code Monkey: November 2009

http://happycodemonkey.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Happy Coding of a Happy Code Monkey. Wednesday, November 18, 2009. Thursday, November 12, 2009. The highlight of the conference was definitely Rod Collier, the guy who designed the Letterman Building here at Ball State. His presentation was both informative and interesting, his PowerPoint was amazing, and he gave some fantastic examples of innovative design in his own home (which he designed himself! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to redesign my website again :). Primary observations of interest:.

Happy Coding of a Happy Code Monkey: September 2010

http://happycodemonkey.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Happy Coding of a Happy Code Monkey. Saturday, September 25, 2010. Redesigns to Blow Your Mind. Since I last posted, I have become gainfully employed by a web development company and have been so for the past 8 months or so. Both the Master's degree and the move down here seems to have paid off even more so than I had any right to hope or expect. Always a good story. So, back to coding, and I hope to have a few functioning projects to write about soon. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Happy Coding of a Happy Code Monkey: Book #2, In far more than a week

http://happycodemonkey.blogspot.com/2011/01/book-2-in-far-more-than-week.html

Happy Coding of a Happy Code Monkey. Friday, January 21, 2011. Book #2, In far more than a week. I finally finished my second book for my 52 book challenge, but only because it was a "GRAPHIC NOVEL" that was only about 80 pages. Ah well, at least I'm making up a little time. Still working on Stories. About 75% of the way through, but the going has been slow because it's very hard to find time to just sit and read, even though I'm finally starting to enjoy it as much as I did when I was a child.

Happy Coding of a Happy Code Monkey: October 2010

http://happycodemonkey.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Happy Coding of a Happy Code Monkey. Wednesday, October 27, 2010. You know, most programmers are libertarian", my workmate stated. I know", I replied, attempting to imply in my tone of voice that I had met many of these abstract libertarian programmers my workmate spoke of. It's because they think, 'Hey, I can solve this problem myself, I don't need any help! Yeah, they're also massive assholes". Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Austin, Texas, United States. Happy Coding of a Happy Code Monkey: Low-Level, Shmoe-Level

Happy Coding of a Happy Code Monkey. Thursday, January 13, 2011. Http:/ mikeos.berlios.de/write-your-own-os.html. Yeah That's what I'm doing tonight. Because seriously. Low-level is one of my many weaknesses, so things like this really appeal to me. Along with this, I've been working on getting through How Not To Program in C. And Write Great Code. In parallel, and it has been a wonderful surprise how well the two books compliment each other. I was reading chunks of Write Great Code. Sneaky, Ninja C.

Happy Coding of a Happy Code Monkey: December 2009

http://happycodemonkey.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Happy Coding of a Happy Code Monkey. Monday, December 14, 2009. I came across this blog post. Via Hacker News tonight, and it gave me a little food for thought. I should know better, of course, than to just take stuff like this as gospel truth, but I hear it a lot from people like Jeff Atwood, who make their living talking about programming. To be a "good" programmer you need to be the kind of person who just loves it, and does it all the time. Saturday, December 12, 2009. Sunday, December 6, 2009. Probl...

Happy Coding of a Happy Code Monkey: Android Developing!

http://happycodemonkey.blogspot.com/2011/01/android-developing.html

Happy Coding of a Happy Code Monkey. Wednesday, January 19, 2011. Short post today, but I've started an Android project at work and I'm really enjoying working with the platform. I never bothered to approach it before, since I didn't have a smart phone at the time and I was never interested in general, but I wish I had started looking at it soon. It's very fun and rather intuitive, especially when using the Eclipse plug-in (me enjoying Eclipse? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Happy Coding of a Happy Code Monkey: Brussel Sprouts!

http://happycodemonkey.blogspot.com/2011/02/brussel-sprouts.html

Happy Coding of a Happy Code Monkey. Tuesday, February 22, 2011. This will be my first, and hopefully not only, blog post on food, because I love food and recently (thanks to my CSA box) my love of cooking has blossomed almost out of control. Tonight I undertook the heretofore impossible task of cooking edible brussel sprouts. Mostly because they came in the CSA box and I hate wasting perfectly good CSA veggies. Oh, and I had eaten on raw recently, and yeah. They're awesome. Yeah, that just happened.

Happy Coding of a Happy Code Monkey: June 2009

http://happycodemonkey.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Happy Coding of a Happy Code Monkey. Saturday, June 13, 2009. The other day I did a dd to my hard drive, and my Crunchbang install got completely wiped out. To the point where the computer refused to boot. The positive side to this story is that I had been thinking about migrating my netbook back over to Arch Linux. And the massive trashing gave me the perfect excuse to do this. So, I'm currently running Arch Linux with the slick tiling window manager Xmonad. The same one used in Crunchbang!

The Halting Point

Tuesday, March 13, 2007. Ever have a problem with squirrels eating all the bird seed out of your bird feeder? Me neither, but I might buy one of these just to laugh my ass off. The product, sold on Birdquest. Uses a battery to rotate the feeder. Birds don't mind being spun at a certain RPM but squirrels do. I'm not quite sure how it detects the difference (probably by weight) but this thing is freaking hilarious to watch. Posted by Halting Point at 3/13/2007. Links to this post. Monday, August 17, 2015. I was once on the threshold of being buzzed and drunk, and had a conversation with this cool biker dude driving the cab back home. We talked about life. You're too young to be this jaded with the world". Some days i agree, some days i'd politely differ. I have always grappled with writing about this. Should i package it like poetry, poignant and sleek; or should i leave it a haphazard stream-of-consciousness chunk of text? So here it is: I'm fucked up. Metal through flesh, a latt...

Halting Problems

Practical problem solving including Algorithms, Formal Logic, Data Structures, and various other areas. Wednesday, September 15, 2010. It's been a while since I worked an actual problem on here, so I thought I'd do one I've been itching to talk about for a few months now. It's the problem of classification when given training examples and a similarity function. What if it is almost exactly the same as one item and extremely dissimilar from all others? While k-nearest neighbors is fairly simple and elegan...
