The following article was published in the March 2014 edition of the UK journal ‘Counselling Children and Young People’. Narelle Smith uses the Cool Kids programme in Australia to address anxiety with groups of children and parents. CBT at its best. The structure of the group programme has four parts to the two-hour weekly sessions. These parts are:. 1 Family together (approximately 20 minutes).

Put your hand on your tummy to check out how you are feeling, and. L say calm down to yourself, using a slow voice. 2 take three deep belly breaths. 3 count to 4 slowly. It’s a good technique for parents to use as well! Take a deep breath and tense your muscles, make them tight all over. Let your breath out and relax your muscles. Reach for your toes and hang there.

We would of course change the lyrics to “I am a musician” to include both boys and girls. But one of the parents, suggested another song called “I am a fine musician”, and it was a great choice.
