An Artist Looks Inside the Universe of Being. Tuesday, August 26, 2014. BACK HOME IN JC "DIVER-CITY". Here I am, third row, far right with my kindergarten class from the Academy of Saint Aloysius in Jersey City NJ, 1952. We’re gathered in the blinding sunlight around the Lincoln statue for our graduation picture. My grammar school/high school was adjacent to the entrance to Lincoln Park. (The building exists today, but is now a charter school.). Cecelia, Abe, and Henry Lincoln Park Jersey City. Up throug...

An Artist Looks Inside the Universe of Being. Sunday, October 26, 2014. THE THINKING PLACE GETS BONES. The Thinking Place facing Northwest with two sugar maple saplings as support bones. A strained back required a two-week hiatus, but I’m back to building my lovely hut in the field here in Peacham, Vermont. Aging and my own bone fragility frustratingly required patience and trust that this body would heal itself if I would be kind to it, and not push too much. Pain meant no gain. An Artist Looks Inside the Universe of Being. Monday, July 28, 2014. TRYING A WEEK OF RAMADAN. Refrigerator and Cecelia with a fake smile. This is me last Thursday in front of my refrigerator thinking about food (audible sigh). I decided to try fasting and meditation for the last week of Ramadan–the Muslim holy month of praying and abstinence from food and water from sunup to sundown. It’s a moveable calendar event that just ended. This year it went from June 28 to July 28. Why did I do this? What is my ...

THE THIRD ACT: CONTEMPLATING AGING. 8220;In the long process of digging down in the heat of summer, I discovered strength, moderation, and bravery. I no longer felt the need to ask Mom about the nature of death. I had instead created a deep place of my own for thinking, and abiding–a place that confirmed my power in old age”- Cecelia Kane. An Artist Looks Inside the Universe of Being. Sunday, April 26, 2015. One of many depictions of the Buddha in Thangka Painting. Yesterday I was treated by my dear friend Julie Puttgen to a full day class in Thangka painting at the Milarepa Center in Barnet Vermont, about a twenty minute drive from Peacham. Me drawing the Buddha head according to the carefully measured grid. My normal drawing style is to “let it rip” and see what happens, but perfectness is the imperative in Thangka painting.
