HandyMan-Ed: 7/29/07 - 8/5/07

http://handymaned.blogspot.com/2007_07_29_archive.html

Sunday, July 29, 2007. The pressure treated frame you see bolted down to the foundation slab will serve as the anchor point for the bar. Here is a handy tip. Before the concrete cures make holes in the concrete for the anchor bolts, slightly under sized, so that it is easy to drill when you install the anchor bolts. To designd the layout I played around with cardboard cutouts on a scale of 1/16" per foot. The first side panel. Is up, nailed to the anchor framing. I've started to put the counter top on.

Saturday, July 28, 2007. Make sure you 'paint' the bottom side of the flooring (3/4" CDX plywood) with wood preservative to prevent termites and wood rot. Here the back-wall had been fabricated first and then erected in place, because of the proximity of the wall. I decided to use cement based panels for siding to make make the shed more resistant to the elements. That's me with my son Tason who helped me raise the back and side walls which were surprisingly heavy! Yours truly just installed the work tab...

HandyMan-Ed: Bathroom Remodel

http://handymaned.blogspot.com/2010/10/bathroom-remodel.html

Friday, October 8, 2010. This is how the bathroom looked before the makeover. It has served us for a long time and it is time to re-do it! I'm going to do everything myself, to save on expenses, except for the new granite top which I'll have done by Granite Fabricators. When you go shopping for granite, you will quickly find out that these granite slab yards are only interested in selling you the whole slab! This is how I did it, with bracing against the old vanity cabinets, since they're goners anyway.

Monday, June 9, 2008. I know, you wonder why not use the lighter wood like 4x4's, 4x8 etc. Well because I'm crazy, that's all. No all-kidding aside, I wanted the new patio cover, which by the way adjoins my old existing patio, to match. My house came with these big beams on the back patio. Besides, big beams just look better. Have a person on your left or right tell you if you are holding the drill perpendicular to the pier when making the hole in the center of the block. When you have to cut a pole so t...

Something Out of Nothing: May 2012

http://soncreative.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 1, 2012. In early April, we took a few days during Alex's spring break to visit some family and friends in the Bay Area. David caught a cold the day before we left and was sick for the entire trip, but we made the best of it. We visited my uncle and his wife just outside Napa and later stayed with my friend Karen and her family in Pacifica, just south of San Francisco. Alex is at that age where he doesn't like to pose for photos. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. OC Regis...

Friday, September 23, 2011. The Stanley House at Stanley Ranch. Armilyn and Alex trying out the old pump organ. Alex is fascinated by the workings of an old, hand-cranked washing machine. Detail of an ornate door hinge. The entire tour of the ranch lasted 2 hours, but we spent almost the entire first hour in the Stanley House. That's how much stuff there was to see! Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Summer vacation is ending. 2 more days until school starts. Saturday, August 28, 2010. Let's give them something to blog about. We finally made it out to Laguna Beach and the Festival of the Arts, where the Bright Sun. Painting Alex did was featured in a Junior Artist Exhibit. You may remember a few months ago.
