The Handyman's Dream: Electrical Rough-In
http://handymansdream.blogspot.com/2014/03/electrical-rough-in.html
This blog chronicles the purchase and subsequent repairs made to a house now known as the "Handyman's Dream.". Saturday, March 1, 2014. I used Advanced Home Wiring (2nd Edition). Apparently there is now a 3rd edition) to figure out how to wire my circuits. It is a pretty good book, with a bunch of common circuit maps laid out clearly. I could have probably just used the internet, but I like paging through a book like this more. No need to sift out the crap information. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
The Handyman's Dream: Summertime!
http://handymansdream.blogspot.com/2014/07/summertime.html
This blog chronicles the purchase and subsequent repairs made to a house now known as the "Handyman's Dream.". Sunday, July 6, 2014. Summertime is a great time to spend in your basement. Really, though, when it's 30 degrees (86 for you Fahrenheit folks) a cold basement is a pretty sweet place to be. Even if you are covered in drywall dust. An exterior wall in what will be a bedroom. Closet to the left. Wait, where did the window go? But, it is all done now. More posts to come soon!

This blog chronicles the purchase and subsequent repairs made to a house now known as the "Handyman's Dream.". Sunday, January 26, 2014. And, $100 and two trips to City Hall later, voila! If you're looking at this drawing, and thinking, geeze, the walls don't even look to be at 90 degrees to each other, I assure you, in real life, they are. In this drawing, probably not. Here I should give a shout-out to my lifeline on this reno - Shannon from http:/ www.house-improvements.com/. He is a wealth of knowled...
The Handyman's Dream: All Inspected and Ready to Drywall
http://handymansdream.blogspot.com/2014/03/all-inspected-and-ready-to-drywall.html
This blog chronicles the purchase and subsequent repairs made to a house now known as the "Handyman's Dream.". Friday, March 7, 2014. All Inspected and Ready to Drywall. The inspector from the local power utility came to check out my rough-in on Wednesday. My understanding was that there was an initial inspection following rough-in, and then a final inspection after the basement was complete. It turns out that unless the inspector has some concerns, there is only one inspection. I also picked up a vanity...
The Handyman's Dream: Who shot a .22 in the basement?
http://handymansdream.blogspot.com/2014/02/who-shot-22-in-basement.html
This blog chronicles the purchase and subsequent repairs made to a house now known as the "Handyman's Dream.". Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Who shot a .22 in the basement? One of the perks of framing a basement is getting to ignite a .22 shell in your basement with a hammer. They sell a specific oil for them, which I purchased and subsequently leaked all over my toolbox, so I now use air tool oil, and it seems to do the trick. In the winter, so maintaining the integrity of the seal is important. I use...

Teaching Chris — will he ever learn? Chris is a teacher who often gets taught…. On this day, 59 years ago, my dad was born…. Winding Down…and winding up! So, we’re moving. April 30, 2015. And I waited. And waited. And heard nothing. But, that started us thinking. We threw a few feelers out there to other schools that we knew we’d like to work at, just to see if there would be any bites. There weren’t. So, we let go. Or mostly let go. I found out that three people had been short-listed, and two were inter...

Teaching Chris — will he ever learn? Chris is a teacher who often gets taught…. Solving the Mystery →. March 10, 2013. I haven’t written here for a long time. No apologies. But I feel the need to, today. An event took place on the weekend that intersected with the grief I’ve felt since my dad was killed in 2009. Bringing back a lot of the feelings from them. When dad died, I processed it on this blog. And, while the grief I feel today pales in comparison, it is grief nonetheless. So, I will. My pleasure ...

This is an exchange that took place between our 4 year old, Norah, and her mom, the other day while I was out:. Norah: I forgot Grandpa Paul was dead, so I thought this picture was going to be for him, so I guess it will just be for Gaia. Me: You can make a picture for Grandpa Paul even though he’s dead.
