After paying a hundred bucks a week for Hank’s testing strips (out of our own pocket) for the past year and a half, our insurance company finally decided to let us know about a mail order pharmacy that is in-network. A blog about hank who lives with type 1 diabetes. About hank and his diabetes. June 2, 2009. Hank went swimming for the first time with his pump… or without his pump really. The pump he is on can be removed for half an hour without causing a big issue with his blood sugar. You would think that by removing the pump his blood sugar would increase as he loses his basal rate which constantly delivers insulin throughout the day. Kaitlyn is spending another year in kindergarten and we are so excited for her. Last year she learned a lot of the material but was lacking in the social and behavioral elements. Every time music is on he grabs the microphone and starts singing. He can even stay in tune! His favorite is Sugarland but he is getting into more rock music thanks to his dad. I pretty much planned on staying home with Hank until he started Kindergarten. By law there has to be a nurse who can care for Hank’s diabetes through the public school system. Since Kaitlyn gets breathing treatments at her school we were able to develop a great relationship with the nurse there, and she is AMAZING! Today was his first day. A day with Hank’s diabetes.
