the slow move east: March 2008
http://hannahdraper.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html
The slow move east. Thoughts on being an expatriate. The slow move east. Thursday, March 20, 2008. When you come to visit this market. And its beauty pageants, perhaps you can stay here. If you're really lucky, you can time your visit so you can go to the opening of this potential establishment. There's sure to be no violence surrounding that event, no sir. Here's information. On how you* can come to see me when I'm there. One more tidbit: rhetoric doesn't always match reality. My parent, spouse, or child.

Frequent Flyer McGuires: July 2014
http://flyermcguires.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 28, 2014. The weekends here in Turkey are our time to get away as a family and have fun. The weekdays can be hectic with work, school/summer camp/swim lessons for E, half marathon training, cooking, cleaning, bath time, pumping, nursing.well, you get the idea. Even little D gets exhausted from his Monday through Friday routine of tummy time and drooling with the nanny. But Saturday and Sunday is when we throw out routine and try to get away. The view from the restaurant. E and the ducks.

Traveling it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller. Ibn Battuta. We Are Now a Family of Four: Meet Seneca. March 9, 2013. Roughly two weeks ago D and I were eating at San Marco (a local pizza place near our home) with one of D’s co-workers after attending a farewell party for one of our awesome marines (who we already miss so much! I already knew his name and everything! He was Seneca and he belonged with us. Seneca: Look at that Togolese Sass! We expected Seneca to be a bit feral but ...

Tuesday, June 16, 2015. It was a fun day. We even got sun burns! The sun's rays at this altitude are nothing to mess around with. Sunscreen for everyone next time. In other news, my boys are learning Spanish! D can actually say three words now: Hola, Agua and Gracias. And E comes home every day with new songs that he has memorized and new phrases or words that his teachers taught him. It's time for mom to get on the ball and start taking lessons of her own! Proudly waving his flag. E is at the top! It Mi...

http://flyermcguires.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 30, 2014. But instead of focusing on the fact that they are gone, I choose to focus on the fond memories. The last couple weeks especially, were full of good times, from a traditional Turkish dinner (with belly dancer! To a fun-filled day at the water park, to a farewell family BBQ and last but not least, the Consulate Independence Day party where we all (maybe) had a bit too much drink that night. Afternoon at the pool - E and his buddy. Day at the water park with all the kids. As I said ea...
Frequent Flyer McGuires: Botero
http://flyermcguires.blogspot.com/2015/08/botero.html
Thursday, August 6, 2015. Bad food aside, the museum was wonderful. I love when the architecture of the building feels like a part of the artwork on display. I've said that about the Guggenheim, and I will say that about this place. The old colonial vibe just made it all the more enjoyable. I'm not quite sure what this building is, but it was right outside. The museum and I thought it was gorgeous. Ditto with this building. I will find out, I promise! The Botero hand at the entrance to the museum. Victor...

Frequent Flyer McGuires: Beach Trip: Cartagena
http://flyermcguires.blogspot.com/2015/07/beach-trip-cartagena.html
Tuesday, July 14, 2015. A couple weekends ago we hopped a 45 minute flight to Colombia's Caribbean coast and enjoyed a three night stay in Cartagena. The embassy was closed for a Colombian holiday weekend, so we tacked on an extra day and made our first beach trip out of town. S and I had both been excited about visiting Cartagena since we learned we would be moving to Bogota, and it did not disappoint. It all sounds so relaxing and fun, right? But lest you think we just vegged and didn't do any. E showi...

http://flyermcguires.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, May 20, 2015. We arrived in Bogota last week after what seemed like a lifetime of hoop-jumping, packing and preparation. It sure ain't easy picking up and relocating your life every 2-3 years! I do have a job that requires Internet, so we shot off a quick email to the powers-that-be and waited. Turned out, our apartment was no longer available at all. Packout had taken place the day before, so all our stuff was gone. We were within our weight limits and things were looking up. That didn't make...
