Making Sense: February 2013

http://hannahstheologicalblog.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Confessions of a Trainee Vicar. Wednesday, 20 February 2013. What am I doing? At the moment I am mostly wandering around asking myself what I am doing. In my last blog post I bemoaned the confusing situation whereby I am guilty that I cannot be both 'maternity leave Mummy going to baby groups, providing thoughtful development activities and cooking wholesome organic purees' and 'final year ordinand working hard on MTh and preparing earnestly for ordination' at the same time. What will I be doing? The Dio...

Confessions of a Trainee Vicar. Saturday, 18 May 2013. On Mission, Ministry and CBeebies. Mr A and I have recently discovered a new thing. It is called CBeebies. But somehow putting him in front of children's TV seems more wholesome parenting! I must say, I'm finding the simple moral messages of pre-school TV quite refreshing. It's also amazingly weird how efficient it is at structuring our mornings. 750am-8am). The morning then proceeds as follows -. 840am - 9am -. If I haven't headed into college by th...

Making Sense: Journeys End, Journeys Begin #2

http://hannahstheologicalblog.blogspot.com/2013/06/journeys-end-journeys-begin-2.html

Confessions of a Trainee Vicar. Thursday, 13 June 2013. Journeys End, Journeys Begin #2. This time last week I was at my last ever Cuddesdon Bright Hour, somewhat intoxicated on the house white, having been at the very reflective Leavers' retreat all day. Kate and I did a sketch about surviving college with a baby and good fun was had by all. Tonight I am sitting in a large and eerily quiet house (no TV aerial! What's happened in the last week? On Monday, at 9.30am, as they had promised, a MASSIVE lo...

Making Sense: August 2012

http://hannahstheologicalblog.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Confessions of a Trainee Vicar. Thursday, 16 August 2012. What a couple of weeks it's been. No one ever tells you what hard work babies are! Well, they do. They tell you about sleep deprivation and never being able to finish a cup of tea or complete a task, but you don't actually BELIEVE them do you? When we were sent home from hospital we were instructed to catheterise him every 6-hours, but this led to huge build-ups in his bladder. His bladder is only meant to hold 30 or 40ml, but it was often str...

More Than Liberty: September 2016

http://morethanliberty.blogspot.com/2016_09_01_archive.html

A conversation between God, me (a Christian minister and mother) and anyone else who might be interested. Monday, 12 September 2016. An Open Letter From Me to the C of E ('cause everyone else is doing it, so why shouldn't I? Oh no, you think. Another open letter. Surely we've had enough of those lately. Well yes, I reply, that's true, there have been a few, haven't there? So, Church, my letter is to you. We've been through a lot together since then, haven't we, Church? So, Church, this is my plea: please...

More Than Liberty: The utter social minefield that is wedding receptions, and the Eucharist

http://morethanliberty.blogspot.com/2016/08/the-utter-social-minefield-that-is_28.html

A conversation between God, me (a Christian minister and mother) and anyone else who might be interested. Sunday, 28 August 2016. The utter social minefield that is wedding receptions, and the Eucharist. I am going to use some words of invitation at this morning's Eucharist that I haven't used before, and I am going to read them to you now so that you can hold this invitation in your heart through the rest of the service. I end with this:. Come to this table not because you must, but because you may.

A conversation between God, me (a Christian minister and mother) and anyone else who might be interested. Monday, 26 January 2015. If I were an Archbishop.A Daydream about the Laying-On of Hands on this Historic Day. Today, the part of the Church of God that I call home, the Church of England gets its first female bishop. Though, have made the laying-on of hands a less straightforwardly joyful celebration than it ought to be. So, I got thinking.what if I were an Archbishop? And would it matter, anyway?

A conversation between God, me (a Christian minister and mother) and anyone else who might be interested. Saturday, 14 February 2015. Skipping Stuff: A Thought for Nearly-Lent. My most deliciously gleeful moment last week was when I phoned a local skip company and hired a four yarder to be delivered next Tuesday. I tried to keep the 'squee! Out of my voice as I discussed the merits of the varieties of skip on offer, because, well, only weirdos get over-excited about skips, don't they?

This year we have seen such pain in Iraq, in Syria, in South Sudan, and just this month, in India. What might the good news of Jesus look like for God's hurting children in those places? A conversation between God, me (a Christian minister and mother) and anyone else who might be interested. Sunday, 26 June 2016. Finding Faith in Uncertain Times: A Post-Referendum Sermon. It's a question that many ask during times of uncertainty; where is God when everything changes around you? So how can we respond, as Christians, during times of uncertainty? I think that there are three responses. Will we trust Him to lead us? I am going to finish by reading a short reflection which is often read on Ne...

Hannah's Theater Blog

Thursday, September 17, 2015. In theater this past week, we have been learning " mining". We had to get in groups and work together. We worked on rope pulling, climbing the rope, and acting like there are walls. We also had to act out like we where "fighting". Friday, September 4, 2015. What I have been learning in theater is, not to be shy. We are now working on hand move ments. Today we had a test on it. I like theater because it is fun and teaches you not to be shy. Theatre Reviews

Monday, 23 May 2011. I felt like this script had more potential as the space limited them and the acting performances were not quite what I expected. I felt the storyline was cut too short and was left disappointed. However, I must exclude some of the actor's performances as I believe they acted to an extremely high standard and if given the opportunity, this piece of theatre could have been great. Making Sense

Confessions of a Trainee Vicar. Sunday, 23 June 2013. At 7am, or thereabouts, a tiny voice will appear over the baby monitor, and earnestly say something like "ro-ro-ro", "da-da-da", "ayyy" or "geh-geh", any of which may be loosely interpreted as "oy, I'm awake you know, bring me my milk! But I'll use the hour or so before this happens to write what will probably be my last post, at least on this blog. So, I'm getting ordained in precisely 1 week. Hannah's Theories

It’s Time to Sack Your Feelings! November 8, 2012. I’m doing it! And then you realise you’ve said the same thing everyday for the last 3 weeks. What kind of crazy person feels like putting themselves through pain anyway? Some people call this pain discipline, I call it annoying…. Cutting out ice cream from my life, going to bed early, studying, saving money instead of buying a new dress, being patient and saying no to something that looks good, pursuing God…. They’re so often nowhere to be found wh...

Here a Hannah--There a Hannah.

Here a Hannah- There a Hannah. Here's Hannah, writing a little bit here, baking and crafting a little bit there-. And finding time to live life in between it all. Tuesday, December 15, 2009. JOUR 315 was an afterthought. Originally signed up for a different class—that, for many reasons, failed miserably—I didn’t know that writing nearly a dozen reviews and editorials would ever be on my plate of English classes, much less included with my already over-indulged semester. Quite frankly, it was fun. The tex...
