Cathy's Garden Harvest

Monday, June 14, 2010. My Garden is Looking Well this year. I went out early this morning and weeded the raised beds. The weeds seem to come out eaiser after a rain. It is also, nice to weed when the sun isn't beating down on me. My lettuce has gone crazy. I had some tonight with homemade cucumber lovage dressing. It was very tasty! I will have to bring some to work though as I have more than I can eat! Well, I guess I could have used the rain water I caputer in my rain barrel! Thursday, May 27, 2010.

Cathy's Garden Harvest: June 2009

http://www.happy2bharvesting.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Wednesday, June 24, 2009. A Basket Full of Chives. Sunday after I reclaimed the Bridal Veil bush, I moved onto cutting back the chives. My aunt told me if I cut them back they would grow back and bloom again. I read on line I should cut them back to about 2-3 inches from the root. I planted one mound of chives several years ago, which through the miracle of mother nature has turned into 3 mounds! Beauty, I waited to long. Next time, I will harvest the flowers as well. The results of my pruning. I harvest...

Cathy's Garden Harvest: A Ray of Sunshine from my Garden

http://www.happy2bharvesting.blogspot.com/2009/08/ray-of-sunshine-from-my-garden.html

Sunday, August 2, 2009. A Ray of Sunshine from my Garden. Today, my intent was to finish rescuing my pine tree, but mother nature had other plans! So, a quick trip to the grocery store for a few ingredients which are not yet ready for harvesting in my garden. My plan was to make my mother's favorite. Summer dish, she called it goulash. I call it summer squash stew as it has no meat. Anyway, while I was at the store, I noticed they had local sweat corn for $1.99 a dozen! I couldn't resist it! Stew and 5 q...

Cathy's Garden Harvest: Red Turns Green Who Knew

http://www.happy2bharvesting.blogspot.com/2009/07/red-turns-green-who-knew.html

Friday, July 10, 2009. Red Turns Green Who Knew. Went to the garden yesterday to check the string beans, which were just starting to produce beans before the 4 th. Of July, I discovered we had enough for one meal. I have three types of beans this year. Green and Scarlett bush beans and Green pole beans. This is the first year I tried bush beans. What I have discovered is they produce beans much earlier than the pole beans, which means I will have several months of beans! They were mighty tasty too!

Cathy's Garden Harvest: The Fruits Of Our Labor

http://www.happy2bharvesting.blogspot.com/2009/06/fruits-of-our-labor.html

Wednesday, June 24, 2009. The Fruits Of Our Labor. Every year, while I am visiting my father in Vermont over Memorial day weekend, I visit the Gardener's Supply Store in Burlington. They have a large variety of organic plants from which to chose. I spend the week that follows, preparing the garden and planting my plants. This year my son helped me with planting the garden. Talking at dinner that night he eagerly. I have started this journal to document our harvest what we did successfully.

Cathy's Garden Journal: Yard Work 4/6/ - 4/8

http://happy2bgardening.blogspot.com/2012/04/yard-work-46-4.html

Photo by Karen Prue. Saturday, April 14, 2012. Yard Work 4/6/ - 4/8. I made 4 new raised beds with Aunt Sandy. Two 5' x 3' for the berry bushes and 2 4' x 4' beds as I have many more veggie varieties this year. I filled the raspberry bushes first. Then dug them out of the medicine wheel garden and transplanted them. I planted them 3 years ago. I planted blackberry, Vermont Raspberry and Golden Raspberry which blooms in the fall. I had two canes for each plant. Unfortunately. The next day I filled the new...

The good news I cleared enough, so my son could place a fence to hide the compost section of the yard from view. He used a recycled fence he painted to look like the crayola crayon box. It is white, red, yellow, blue. We are going to place solar. Lights on the posts as well. It is unique to say the least. My neighbors probably think I am nuts. We are thinking we will make this the children's.

Cathy's Garden Journal: Yard Work 4/15

http://happy2bgardening.blogspot.com/2012/04/yard-work-415.html

Photo by Karen Prue. Tuesday, April 17, 2012. Well things do not always go the way you planned. I set out in the morning to to plant some seeds. Then decided to clean the leaves out of the foundation garden. This led me to the driveway. I had a ton of cinder blocks from an unfinished retaining wall I was going to try to build. I decided waste not want not and used these to line the driveway! So, once again the lettuce did not get planted. Oh well Still time. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Photo by Karen Prue. Tuesday, April 17, 2012. I started my tomato plants on Mar 3rd. I cannot believe how large they are already. I moved them from the grow light last week. I put them in the dining room window. I have been turning them every day so they get enough sun. Anyway, I think it is going to be a good year for the tomatoes! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). http://happy2bgardening.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Photo by Karen Prue. Friday, March 30, 2012. Mar 30, 2012k. I must research how to take care of sage. Mine is looking very woody. I probably should prune it in the fall. I finally put the pergola back together. I tried to nail it down, but needed to be above it. I had the ladder in the wrong position. I will try again on Sunday, it was getting dark. I will also, prune the Wisteria. Thursday, March 22, 2012. Another beautiful day today it was actually 80 degrees! Monday, March 19, 2012. I cleared one side...

http://happy2bgardening.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Photo by Karen Prue. Monday, July 13, 2009. This year, I have decided to change the chore into a joy! I know you are thinking weeding is work and work is not a joy, but it is, let me explain. First, I start early before most people are up and the sun is rising. The yard is calm, cool and the day is full of promise. I survey the garden for a moment to see what it looks like and what it could be. I don't think about the other tasks ahead, thinking too far ahead can only depress you. Thursday, July 9, 2009.
