Was started to meet the needs of the growing number of elderly people in South Tyneside who live alone and in many cases do not have family support. Happy at Home is a befriending service offering isolated and lonely local people a visit in their own homes, to provide social contact and reduce isolation and feelings of loneliness. 'Lonely people' could be neighbours, friends, members of a church, or members of the wider community who need support. They are mostly (but not always) elderly people.
