Rape and sexual assault are significant problems in India. In 2013, reported rape cases in India were 35.2% higher than 2012, and 57.5% higher than 2009. A 2007 Ministry of Woman and Child Development study stated that 53.2% of children have experienced sexual abuse, 20.9% suffered severe forms of sexual abuse, including rape.
