Harboring Much - Asking a Lot: October 2011

http://harboringmuch.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Harboring Much - Asking a Lot. Short fiction and poetry. Monday, October 24, 2011. An Archetypical Mall Outing. I went to the mall the other day because my wife wanted to do some shopping. Now I know we live in a time and a culture that is supposed to shun stereotypes, but what can I say? Sometimes they fit. My wife loves to shop. I hate it. But I like her and my coming along makes her happy, so sometimes, not all the time, but sometimes I go with her. Almost immediately these two biddies started chatting.

Harboring Much - Asking a Lot. Short fiction and poetry. Saturday, September 6, 2014. The student went to the master who lived in the dump. Why do you live here with the garbage, the student asked. The master spoke. When does a doll cease to be a doll? When does a table cease to be a table? When does a man cease to be a man? I do not know, the student said. Go, fetch your most valued possession and toss it on that mound of refuse. Then you will know. The student left more enlightened. I offer this work f...

Harboring Much - Asking a Lot: August 2011

http://harboringmuch.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Harboring Much - Asking a Lot. Short fiction and poetry. Sunday, August 28, 2011. Walter looked past the High Officer into the room beyond. They were separated from the room by a large glass window. On the other side of the glass - in the room - were three blond-haired children sitting before an old man in a rocking chair. The old man was telling a story. 8220;What happens,” Walter said, “to them once the operation is completed? 8220;Oh,” Walter said. 8221; screamed a voice from inside the house. Wal...

Positive Lattitude: Pop! the cork

http://positivelattitude.blogspot.com/2016/08/pop-cork.html

Wherein I attempt to make sense of myself, places near and far, and how we all navigate this world. Tuesday, August 23, 2016. I could go on and on listing the generosities of my mom and perhaps I should, but the point of this post was supposed to be to say that I wish I were more like her. Then, of course, I feel that old choking sensation. Just at the base of my throat below my voicebox, beyond that lump. I wonder why my chest hurts, why my tummy hurts. In my naval, golden and bubbling. Every kiss, a sip.

Positive Lattitude: November 2015

http://positivelattitude.blogspot.com/2015_11_01_archive.html

Wherein I attempt to make sense of myself, places near and far, and how we all navigate this world. Friday, November 27, 2015. Hug Your Fear (It Wants You To Live). This week I have been grateful to feel my depression lifting. As I type this, it’s becoming easier to breathe with each passing minute. When I listen to the birds singing, I actually hear. I explained this to my therapist who said, “I am not worried about you. Do you know why? Or think, “who does she think she is! 8221; But I’ve figured...

Wherein I attempt to make sense of myself, places near and far, and how we all navigate this world. Thursday, November 19, 2015. Interview with a Phone Vampire. Now, I’m fighting a downward spiral into depression that has been slowly lifting. I've been asking myself today why. How did this guy, and this interview, have such an effect on my confidence? Logically, I know that I am really adaptable and can just get a job somewhere else, so what’s with this spiral? 8221; In this case:. I always fuck it up.

Positive Lattitude: Temporary stop

http://positivelattitude.blogspot.com/2015/11/temporary-stop.html

Wherein I attempt to make sense of myself, places near and far, and how we all navigate this world. Monday, November 16, 2015. This morning, like almost every morning these days, I hear Katherine’s voice in my head. You can do it, baby. Put your feet on the floor. Yes! I’m so proud of you! Katherine’s messages, her voice, saves me. When I think about harming myself, I always think, I couldn’t do that to Katherine, or my dog, or my mom, or… breathe… Andy. You’re doing so gooooood! I get out and dry my han...

Wherein I attempt to make sense of myself, places near and far, and how we all navigate this world. Tuesday, April 26, 2016. Like a Record, Baby. Yes, there are data from Harvard, who has the longest running study on happiness and health to date (you can read about the study here. The data have shown time and time again that the key to long, healthy, happy lives is in our relationships- specifically our closest relationships and our sense of community and belonging. What about my career? The people in my...

Positive Lattitude: There Be Dragons

http://positivelattitude.blogspot.com/2015/12/there-be-dragons.html

Wherein I attempt to make sense of myself, places near and far, and how we all navigate this world. Wednesday, December 2, 2015. You know what's really hard about both getting what you want or not getting what you want? The results are basically the same. There is disappointment if you thought that’s what would make you happy. If you did get what you want, it makes you no happier than you were before getting it. If you didn’t, you’re heartbroken. Slowly, you realize that your ruby slippers took you to ha...

http://positivelattitude.blogspot.com/2015_12_01_archive.html

Wherein I attempt to make sense of myself, places near and far, and how we all navigate this world. Tuesday, December 8, 2015. Every Badass Needs a Crossbow. I’m so tired of being afraid. Or rather, letting my fear control my brain the way it has been. I’m so not okay with that. Today, as I was driving in my car, the thought popped up, “I’m really fucking tired of being scared. I’m DONE.” I felt my inner Lara Croft taking over again. She is a badass and she is a part o...And I want a goddamn crossbow.

Positive Lattitude: Anatomy of a Dream

http://positivelattitude.blogspot.com/2016/05/anatomy-of-dream.html

Wherein I attempt to make sense of myself, places near and far, and how we all navigate this world. Wednesday, May 25, 2016. Anatomy of a Dream. Last night’s dream is even difficult for me to write out- it wants to stay stuck in my throat and keeps my chest tight and protected. Therefore, it needs to come out, but I'll keep it short. I dreamed that I was pregnant (gasp! I was absolutely terrified and alone- I had never had surgery of any kind before. The doctors were very kind and one of them was par...
