Harbour Wind is facilitating the installation of a small-scale wind turbine at Orton Bradley Park. Our brief is to weave together the complex strands required to complete the project. This principally involves raising the required money but also acquiring council consent, ensuring positive community engagement, turbine and installer choice, liaising with Orion and a suitable power company and ensuring the Orton Bradley Park Charitable Trust is happy with the process and result.

Harbour Wind is a community organisation currently facilitating the construction of a small-scale wind turbine at Orton Bradley Park on the Banks Peninsula. Our company structure was chosen for flexibility. The directors of Harbour Wind Ltd are Matt Russell, Sam Masters and Susan Ayton. Pete is a business management consultant who enjoys working in the energy sector, and wants to see greater use of economically rational renewable investments in New Zealand.

What is small-scale wind generation? It is generally considered that small-scale wind farms range anywhere from 100kW 5MW (100 kiloWatts to 5 MegaWatts). Domestic-scale installations will generally not exceed 100kW. The Orton Bradley installation is small by comparison, with the proposed turbine rated at approximately 2-3kW. Why Orton Bradley Park?
