Harlem Renaissance 2005: "On a Primitive Canoe"

http://harlemrenaissance2005.blogspot.com/2005/12/on-primitive-canoe.html

Thursday, December 01, 2005. On a Primitive Canoe". Throughout Claude McKay’s autobiography, he has more trouble indulging with the Harlem Intelligentsia than the working class subjects of his first novel, Home to Harlem. Posted by Passion @ 5:19 AM. I, like Passion, see the significance of the writing style McKay uses. I believe it adds to the somewhat primitive nature of his home, the natural state of it all, the simplicity of an indigenous people. Of course I realize that Claude McKay's poem is a home...

Harlem Renaissance 2005: Barcelona

http://harlemrenaissance2005.blogspot.com/2005/12/barcelona.html

Thursday, December 01, 2005. Posted by maria @ 9:55 AM. McKay is voicing his preference to Barcelona over Harlem. They are similar, with the culture, sensations, and eccentric places, yet they are different, with people "coming together" in the streets of Barcelona. McKay prefers this to Harlem, where instead of coming together, the white people come to view blacks performing, yet stay distinctly separate. I think McKay is hinting at what Harlem could grow to be. On a Primitive Canoe. On The desolate city.

Harlem Renaissance 2005: Free Janie!

http://harlemrenaissance2005.blogspot.com/2005/12/free-janie.html

Saturday, December 10, 2005. Posted by Cyrus @ 7:00 PM. While I do not agree that Janie's decision to leave the Logan for Jody was one of the best decisions of her life, I do think that it was an important step for her to mature into an individual woman. Becoming free from her grandmothers rule is an important step in Janie's life for her to become happy. Janie does eventually become free because of her ability to make decisions on her own. The Evolution of Janie Crawford. Ambiguity in The Desolate City.

Harlem Renaissance 2005: Janie's progression

http://harlemrenaissance2005.blogspot.com/2005/12/janies-progression.html

Sunday, December 11, 2005. Posted by Olivia @ 8:18 PM. I agree with your analysis Olivia. The story is one of a Janie's progression from an innocent and fairly naive girl into a mature, life-experienced woman. This progression is gradual and i think is fully expressed when she verbally defends herself againt Joe Starks. Bad luck builds character. Her Eyes Were Watching God. The Tale of Janie Crawford. The Evolution of Janie Crawford. Ambiguity in The Desolate City.

Saturday, March 5, 2011. The racial lines were blurred by the unique taste for different types of music-jazz and blues, and with poetry and writings that have lasted through the years as classic and ingenious.
