Harness Your Health

Sunday, June 6, 2010. I just whipped this up from some leftovers. It may sound a bit odd, but the avocado lends a creaminess and a healthy dose of those incredibly good for you fatty acids. The flavors are balanced by the salty-umami flavor of miso, used in place of salt. 1 tablespoon grapeseed oil. 1 large yellow onion, diced. 4 cups vegetable stock. 1 large head broccoli, chopped. 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper. 1-2 large Haas avocadoes, mashed. 2 tablespoons yellow miso, or more to taste.

Harness Your Health: Kombuchamazing!!!

http://www.harnessyourhealth.blogspot.com/2010/05/kombuchamazing.html

Tuesday, May 25, 2010. 1 gallon-sized glass- it MUST be glass- jar. An old t-shirt or some cheesecloth. Enough brewed green or black tea to fill the jar. A bunch of sugar. Brew up a gallon of caffeinated tea, this will use about 6-8 regular sized tea bags. I used loose leaf jasmine green tea, the kind where the tea is in little balls that pop open into flowery-like things when added to water, I used about 3-4 tablespoons of this tea. Since you can find it pretty much anywhere nowadays. My kombucha fermen...

Harness Your Health: The Magical Fruit

http://www.harnessyourhealth.blogspot.com/2010/05/magical-fruit.html

Saturday, May 22, 2010. I made baked beans. From scratch. Like, complete scratch, soaked the beans overnight and everything. I found the recipe while leisurely reading American Food Writing. By Molly O'Neill. The "recipe" was part of someone's work, and here I will translate the recipe so that you too can make it at home (it's really easy, and so incredibly delicious):. 4 cups white [great northern] beans, soaked overnight. 1 lb (16 ounces) salt pork [I used bacon]. 1 large onion, peeled and quatered.

Harness Your Health: It's what's for breakfast.

http://www.harnessyourhealth.blogspot.com/2010/06/its-whats-for-breakfast.html

Sunday, June 6, 2010. It's what's for breakfast. Beef Eel River, 100% grassfed beef to be specific, stir fry style. I had it for breakfast. Here's the recipe for what I did:. 1/2 teaspoon grapeseed oil. 1/2 pound 100%grassfed organic beef, stir fry cut. 1 tablespoon agave nectar. 1/8 teaspoon red chili flakes. 1 fresh garlic clove, minced. Warm a medium cast iron skillet over medium-hugh heat and add oil. Pat dry beef with paper towel and add to skillet. Remove meat from skillet and pour juices over meat.

Feeding River: April 2010

http://feedingriver.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 30, 2010. Three Nutritious Things I Recommend You Grow. 1) Flax seed: Yes, those tiny little brown seeds that speckle the top of breads can be tossed out into the garden for a stunning display and a nice little harvest. Once you've tossed them out, maybe just rake the surface of the soil a bit, water them in, and then just sit back and watch the show! Their healthy oil content is impressive and so is their inch-wide flower! Tiffany Schindler, BSN. Thursday, April 22, 2010. For some, too&#46...

Feeding River: I heart Harvest Time

http://feedingriver.blogspot.com/2010/06/i-heart-harvest-time.html

Wednesday, May 26, 2010. I heart Harvest Time. We're just finishing off our harvest of snap peas. They've been providing a nice little snack before school for about a month now. I never really know what to expect from the harvest. you can plant so many things and some die or fail to yield a harvest because of strange weather conditions, insect damage, or. who knows. So I took a trip down memory lane (thank you, iPhoto) to see what last year was like and get excited about what's to come. Like Peas in a Pod.

Feeding River: There's More to Life than Chicken Nuggets

http://feedingriver.blogspot.com/2010/06/theres-more-to-life-than-chicken.html

Thursday, June 17, 2010. There's More to Life than Chicken Nuggets. A blue jay visited our garden this week and left us a feather to remember him by. River was ecstatic to find it, as you can see by his toothy grin! Our five varieties of tomatoes are getting a great start. They're not fruiting yet, but I know it wont be long! It's not edible, but I was so inspired by this little flower that volunteered to grow in a crack in the garden wall. River lovingly placed rocks in front of it for protection.

Thursday, April 22, 2010. Americans like to quantify things. Even better, we love to rank order anything: 10 Worst Dressed, 25 Best Beaches, Fastest Ways to Lose 10 Lbs. Perhaps most of all, we want science to tell us what will make us healthy and happy, in simple, easy numbers. We don’t especially need to know what the numbers mean; we’re just reassured by their presence on a package. 6 grams of fiber! Do we know how many we need and how it helps? Feeding River: Working Together to Grow

http://feedingriver.blogspot.com/2010/05/working-together-to-grow.html

Monday, May 17, 2010. Working Together to Grow. It just so happens that I have a prime location for my apartment garden. It receives full sun all day on the edge of our parking lot. And it just so happens that my nearest neighbor loves to garden as well. Halida and her family are from Bosnia and we have a good time chatting about our little hobby. "What you call? She asked me one day, pointing at carnations. "Karanfil," she told me. After that event was when I realized, Halida and I have a relationship w...

Feeding River: Like Peas in a Pod

http://feedingriver.blogspot.com/2010/06/like-peas-in-pod.html

Wednesday, May 5, 2010. Like Peas in a Pod. Eating together as a family matters. You've heard it before, right? I'd given myself plenty of guilt about what my son was missing: time with mom, some company at the table, the extra experience of witnessing how adults act at the table, the list goes on. But I had forgotten what I. Was missing. River is good company. Then came the icing on the cake. He took a tiny little sideways glance at me and said, "Mama? Tiffany Schindler, BSN. Topatoes: Liver, beets, tapioca, and why a blog

http://topatoestories.blogspot.com/2010/04/liver-beets-tapioca-and-why-blog.html

Thursday, April 15, 2010. Liver, beets, tapioca, and why a blog. Had brazen chunks of celery smirking up at me. These are the stories I’m most interested in. Why do we eat the way we do, individually and collectively? What allows us to choose food that nourishes us, body and psyche? What keeps us gulping down massive amounts of processed pseudo-food? April 21, 2010 at 11:15 AM. Great blog, makes me want to hear more. April 21, 2010 at 11:26 AM. Looking forward to reading your thoughts and stories.

Aliens in plaid shirts. Musings on music, film and popular culture. Tweeting Crow: Learning Life Lessons from Bret Easton Ellis’s Twitter. October 8, 2012. First off, lets get one thing straight I like. The work of Bret Easton Ellis.
