Carlisle is easily accessible from the north-east via the A69 and Northern Rail trains. From the north-west, Carlisle is accessed via the M6 and west coast mainline train routes. To see the Ride to the Sun route which finishes at Cramond beach 20 minutes cycle (on mostly traffic-free cyclepaths) from central Edinburgh. We’ve chosen this route to be as accessible to as many people as possible easy to follow, interesting to ride, and as traffic free as possible. And an accessible grub stop was also a priority! Ride to the Sun. Saturday 17th June 2017. Make Ride to the Sun your next cycling challenge. 100 miles through the night on lovely quiet roads from England across the border to Scotland. Follow in the footsteps of the Roman legions who trudged the long road from Luguvalium (Carlisle). To the old garrison camp of Caer Amon (Cramond). To register your interest - Its FREE to take part, there is a chip shop stop in Moffat after 45 miles and bacon sarnies served at the finish. I am never doing this again!

The idea and inspiration for the Ride to the Sun has unashamedly been the Dunwich Dynamo. Every year, on the Saturday closest to a full moon in July, thousands of cyclists meet in London and ride 120 miles through-the-night to Dunwich on the Suffolk coast. There’s no organisation, support crew or logical reason to do it. There’s an informal party on the beach. Which runs from Bath to Exmouth seafront. Please follow the directions below if travelling from Edinburgh. From Edinburgh City Bypass A720 (travelling towards A1 from Airport/Ikea/M8 - West and Southside of City). Start out on Edinburgh City Bypass (A720) following signs for Berwick upon Tweed A1. Continue on A720 Bypass. Due to demand and to allow as many possible riders to participate there are 2 Tour de Lauder routes. Route which takes riders on an 89 mile tour around the Cols of Berwickshire and the Nouveau. Route which will be the North half of the Tour de Lauder, a shorter 50 mile option but just as challenging. There will be two refreshment stops on the Nouveau route and three on the Classic.
