Friends of Hartshill Park. Who are the Friends of Hartshill Park? What do they do? The Friends of Hartshill Park undertake a variety of practical conservation tasks throughout the year. Previous projects include:. Annual Spring Clean Events. Path and step construction. The friends also run a programme of events. That are advertised locally and are free to join. The area designated as Hartshill Park has a varied history of land use. During the Domesday period it formed part of a vast deer park, Cliff Hay, mentioned in 1204. Hart is the name of a male deer and these were bred for the King to hunt in mediaeval times. Hartshill as a place name is recorded in the 16th century. 2003 Friends Of Hartshill Park.

The park contains a variety of wildlife reflecting the different habitats present. The steep slope that characterises the park has evolved over time, with the Fowlea Brook at the base, a sandstone cap at the summit and a clay bedrock in between. Part of the park was used for farming and the fringes supported small industries. A marl pit was used for landfill until the first reclaimation scheme took place in the early 1970s. 2003 Friends Of Hartshill Park.
