Hastings Pier: Before September 2010. Guest photographer Jiminy Lumix. Back in January 2008 I found myself. On Hastings seafront with a spectacular sunset and no tripod. As you can see, I went for it handheld - the colours came out well. [Sell an image on it's strengths! Here's some more of those colours. The Land of Mist Opportunity. Driving down the road I saw a denuded tree in a bank of mist which was lit by the low afternoon sun. I had to park some distance away and by the time I walked back and managed to photograph the scene, dodging between the passing cars, the mist had thinned and the sun dropped so that it only caught the top. Along Hastings sea-front, heading towards Saint Leonard’s, is a garden area with some tropical-looking trees. Nice enough in daylight, they are subtly lit at night forming oases of light. In the bleak midwinter there was deep snow on the ground and some fabulous dark skies. They look like manufactured backdrops, but each is a photo of a genuine sky with some smoothing created by the cloud movement during the long exposures. The two above have some natural colouration because of the newly installed white street lamp behind the camera. Wheras these two are red/orange due to the old sodium lamp on the other side. Hastings Pier: September 2010. During the ides of September I found myself on Hastings seafront. It was a bright, clear day so I took some pictures of the pier, little realising it was to be destroyed by the fire less than a month hence. Here are the nicest ones: a memory of what had once been - and may be again? The irony of that sign isn't lost on me. Look at the Hastings Pier and White Rock Trust.
