How I rekindled my Facebook love affair. Having used FB heavily for upwards of three years, I started to notice a change in my attitude towards my friend Facebook. I'll refer to Facebook as a 'he'. So, I closed my Facebook account. Immediately, I felt much better. However, I have a lot of friends who live across the pond. They put a lot of pictures and fun information on Facebook. I missed being in synch with their lives. Email just wasn't the same. Bothered me, but I couldn't delete things easily. I was...

Christmas gift ideas for gadget heads. I went looking for Christmas inspiration, needing ideas on what to get my husband this year, and I found some unique gift sites for gadget heads:. Lots of unique, very random gifts. Will shortly be buying my brother-in-law the 'badass motherf*cker' Pulp Fiction wallet and my husband the denture ice cube tray. (Probably best not to ask.). Fabulous gifts for the gadget-minded. I'm not sure what their international shipping policy is, mind. It's from the US. Christmas ...

Spinning Out of Control: Lessons We Can Learn From SpinVox. The current media frenzy over voice-to-text conversion service SpinVox. And its apparent use of human translators over its ‘top secret’ technology is fascinating, certainly the Twittersphere thinks so. When the dust settles I think the SpinVox ‘translatorgate’ saga will go down in PR history and training sessions for years to come as an example of how not. I met various, SpinVox team members at Mobile World Congress earlier this year. 8217; open...

To newsletter or not to newsletter. A lot of companies are keen to jump on the 'company newsletter' bandwagon as an outlet for talking to their market and current customer base. It's nuthin' new - the newsletter has been around since the dawn of business - it's just easier to distribute now through digital channels. I am signed up to several, and read them mainly because I'm always asking myself, "Can and should we do a good. Posted by Emily McDaid. Twitter a PR love-in, says Hitwise. Why do we love this?

SMEs "get" social media while large co's miss the boat. Two reports were released today that indicates a big discrepancy in how small business and large enterprise are embracing social media: with the small guys leading the charge. One study claims that social media has become indispensable to small businesses and another claims Superbrands aren't latching onto Twitter. According to V3.co.uk. Meanwhile over at new media age. Small business is benefiting from Twitter, even if the benefit is hard to quanti...

Take a look at some interesting figures emanating from the US yesterday into the perception among chief financial officers (CFOs) at Fortune 1000 companies of their respective marketing teams. Less than a quarter (22 per cent) believe that marketing heads should be given more money to work with and 47 per cent were “not confident” in the job their marketing partners were doing for them. So Just When Will Social Media Make Money? I read this piece. From the Torygraph today which very much focuses on the negative aspects of social media. For those in the know, there’s nothing in the piece which will surprise you but for the digerati passionate about social media and its potential it will infuriate. I take its point about Twitter. Deserves to get fired. But there is one point the writer raised which I can’t throw back at him – social networks are not making money. If I were either of them ...

Skeletons in your closet: dead physical media. No one was surprised by this month's admission by HMV. For those readers wanting to know how to recycle old DVDs or CDs rather than feeding the nearest landfill, this blog post by ReduceReuseRecycle. Posted by Emily McDaid. 31 January 2011 at 09:19. You found marmalade in HMV? I think were still very much in the middle of the no removable media debate - afterall, its still illegal to rip DVDs (and probably even CDs) in the UK. Im on about my third mp3 player...
