True Life is Stranger than Fiction: July 2006
http://truelifeisstrangerthanfiction.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html
True Life is Stranger than Fiction. True stories from the ER, and the streets of EMS. Thursday, July 20, 2006. Adventures in Emergency Medicine. This post covers multiple calls/cases from this past weekend. It will get long I'm sure. I've always said that a high level of testosterone poisoning is required to be a Marine. The worst-off Marine had a core temp of 110F. And was having seizures, totally unconscious. I'm glad I didn't have to take care of any of those poor guys. With lights and sirens. En rout...

Night Runs: One more Sunrise
http://nightruns.blogspot.com/2007/07/one-more-sunrise.html
Thoughts and experiences from the life of a volunteer street medic. Monday, July 16, 2007. Now, I dunno. Like I said, I wasn't sure if I would or not. I did think about family and friends dealing with it, but really, at that time, the foundation of what I believed was shattered, and I just didn't have the reserve to count on them. I just wanted to stop hurting. That day, or the next I was evaluated by a psychologist, and incidentally, when in that situation and the doc asks, "Are you on any medications?

Thoughts and experiences from the life of a volunteer street medic. Monday, March 05, 2007. Okay, I owe a post. Thank you all to the continued support during this inactive (on here) period. I promise I’m digging out and will be back. In the mean timeI have a request. Every year the St. Baldrick's foundation holds a series of events to raise money for children's cancer research. The Fire department I volunteer at is participating again this year and I have agreed to sign up. Posted by MedicChris @ 9:08 PM.

Thoughts and experiences from the life of a volunteer street medic. Monday, October 31, 2005. Posted by MedicChris @ 9:08 PM. Links to this post. Friday, October 28, 2005. Medics 1, Reaper 0. Last year began with a call that could have gone either way. The crew was assembled in the TV room watching the NFL playoffs on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Over the rowdy cheers that erupt as our team intercepted the ball we hear the house bells sound. Box 1201 for the choking. Hey, I can bag her now! Links to this post.

Night Runs: December 2005
http://nightruns.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html
Thoughts and experiences from the life of a volunteer street medic. Thursday, December 29, 2005. WE DON’T NEED NO STINKING SCENE SECURITY! The poker game started late, but then again, at least it started. (See the parallels? There is someone else cut! Back to the kitchen, where I watched the assembled fire/EMS people put the first guy onto a backboard and hustle him outside. Most of my guys went out with them, including Wayne, who was by then directly helping out with patient care. The rookie and...I wen...

Wow time keeps slipping by me, but thanks to everyone who keeps checking in here, swinging by the myspace page. Sending email and prodding me in the street to Update that blog . I’m coming up on one year doing this and I’m still surprised anyone reads it. He directs us to get behind the utility as we crest the ridge and get our first look at the scene. He's an EMT wit...

Thoughts and experiences from the life of a volunteer street medic. Thursday, March 30, 2006. Either you're SWAT, or you're not. I grin as I leave to go get that dinner. Tess was not in that night, she was working. Our patient is a tall, laid out, bleeding from one hip and apparently unconscious. One of the SWAT guys is tending to the leg wound. He says a familiar Hey there! And is smiling behind a mask. I say hello as I start to assess what I have here. Dogs get him? Yeah, goSee them? She laughs. I ...

True Life is Stranger than Fiction: January 2006
http://truelifeisstrangerthanfiction.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html
True Life is Stranger than Fiction. True stories from the ER, and the streets of EMS. Monday, January 30, 2006. 4 Medics=1 guaranteed code. This past Saturday, I had the pleasure and good fortune of running w/3 other Medics. Of course, as one of them (MedicJon) put it, we were doomed to run a code. Right when we sat down to eat lunch (another damning scenario in EMS), we got toned-out for an "Unconscious". Out came the patient, and it was showtime. I noticed he was not only a big guy, but he had acum...
