My tips for day one:. 1 Make sure you have your pain meds in bed with you overnight in case you need them. 2 Take your pain meds regularly to manage the pain before it starts to manage you. 3 Prep your recovery room, as you’ll need to rest up. Before I was a runner, I’m not sure what I would have thought if I walked past a sweaty, red-faced girl jogging while laughing away to herself. It probably wouldn’t have been good, though. For that reason, I don’t recommend town long runs while listening to David Mitchell’s autobiography. It feels so efficient…. Small island, surprised runner.
