Tales of a Nurse With a Mission

Tales of a Nurse With a Mission. Saturday, October 29, 2011. Moscow was where I spent my last week in Russia. My ministry focus that week was somewhat different from Ulan Ude because I was going to be speaking to university students in small groups, rather than to various age groups at specific churches. The whole week was incredible! One of the first things I said when I got up to speak was, “I want to be African! 8221; They gave me “honorary African” status. Lol. What a fun time! Tales of a Nurse With a Mission: July 2010

http://www.healednations.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Tales of a Nurse With a Mission. Friday, July 9, 2010. This Birdie Ain't in the Sky. Until a few weeks ago, I thought a birdie was something that flew around in the sky, landed on tree branches, and sang too early in the morning. Now I know that a birdie is . . . well, I've forgotten what it is now, but it's a golfing term and it's a good thing to get one. :). We had a fantastic turnout with about 20 teams of 4 players, so it was a fun and profitable day . . . and very hot! Links to this post. I am a ped...

Tales of a Nurse With a Mission. Wednesday, February 2, 2011. Heaven's 52 Latest Parties! Just a few days ago I received the following e-mail from the missionaries we worked with in Ecuador last summer. After four years of repeatedly visiting a village and seeing no results at all, a Kwicha Community suddenly had a revival. They have service every night and 52 were baptized two weeks ago. There is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God. Over one sinner who repents . . .". Links to this post.

Tales of a Nurse With a Mission: May 2010

http://www.healednations.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Tales of a Nurse With a Mission. Monday, May 3, 2010. Yesterday, I had the super fun privilege of sharing in children's church about medical missions and about Ethiopia. There were about 75 kids there and they were so attentive and excited about missions! Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.' And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them." Mark 10:15-16. Q: How old are you? Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Great Things: Papaya for Dinner

http://anurseslife-jessi.blogspot.com/2015/01/theres-unremarkable-little-bird-having.html

Sunday, January 18, 2015. There’s an unremarkable little bird having a huge dinner in Yaounde right now. This afternoon, I noticed a little bird was perched on the side of the tree trunk, close to an overripe papaya. I watched him with surprise as he dug his little claws into the tree and then leaned his head back from his perch and took a nibble from the fruit. He got a good start and then he hopped from the tree trunk over to the papaya itself and continued his little mini-feast. Then He is surely capa...

Wednesday, June 1, 2011. Be brave. Just listen to what I have to say". I couldn't hear anything more because they entered the glass tomb, but I had heard the lesson God was speaking. That momma knew what she was doing. She'd walked through tons of revolving doors and she knew how to safely maneuver through them even though her child did not. The little girl got safely through because she placed her hand in her mom's hand, stuck close, and listened up. Take His hand. Stick close. Listen up. Oil in my Lamp.

Great Things: January 2012

http://anurseslife-jessi.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, January 21, 2012. A few weeks before Christmas while I was headed home from work, I did something I've never done before: I thanked the Lord for giving me the privilege of being a nurse. As I roamed around the super fun Christmas bash, I ran across a family I had come to adore during their frequent hospitalizations. I hadn't seen them in a long time and so there were a lot of happy hugs and "how are you doings? She asked me. "How do you say 'Thank you for saving my son's life'? The patient and ...

Tuesday, March 15, 2011. The Cat With a “J” Name and What She Taught Me . . . I’d like to introduce you to our cat. We didn. 8217;t want her to feel like she wasn. 8217;t part of the family, so we gave her a “J” name, too: Janie. Janie loves one thing more than just about anything else in the world: eating. Obviously, she fits well into our family. Her dry food sits inside the front door and her food bowl is on the other side of the wall . . . outside. While I watched her sitting still, I thought about p...

Great Things: Hold You?

http://anurseslife-jessi.blogspot.com/2013/05/hold-you.html

Monday, May 13, 2013. The other day I was watching a friend's little 2 year old daughter. We went for a walk down to a nearby swing set so we could play. As we walked down the street, this little gal's chubby fingers clasped my hand as she took two steps for every one step I took. She trotted along like this for sometime, chattering on about "swing" and "mommy" and "mammie and papa" and "birdies". Then she inquisitively said these two sweet words, "Hold you? Her question was simple. My need is simple.

Friday, January 21, 2011. Dirty Love in the Cold. The low tonight is going to be 4 degrees. The ground is covered with snow. . . . it sets me to thinking about the homeless. What about them tonight? I think about them sitting in the mission at 6 PM listening to a gospel message just so they can be sure they get a meal and 90 minutes of warm air. Isn't here to eat, I think to myself. A grown-up girl, with the mind of a child, trails him. She's talking on a cell phone. Her speech and actions betray...An ho...

Tuesday, November 6, 2012. The beginning of November found me just back from a trip to Eastern Africa. On Election Day, I went our local polling station to vote and experienced gut-level gratitude. It hit me like an unexpected rush of cold wind . . . those tears, that feeling. So unexpected and overwhelming. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Who I Am . . . Cozy evenings at home. Great Things: Two Words

http://anurseslife-jessi.blogspot.com/2014/10/the-two-words-that-can-change-your.html

Sunday, October 12, 2014. Her two little words surprise me. She speaks them with the innocent voice of a child, but her words carry with them the weight of eternity. Binta's father did not allow her to attend school as a child, so she did not speak any French when she arrived in Yaounde. In the intervening years, she has taught herself how to converse in French out of necessity. Recently, her husband had given me permission to teach Binta how to read and write in French. My first reaction is to laugh at ...
