Jön Upsal's Garden: Towards a Theory of Reconstructionist Religion (Part Three)
http://jonupsalsgarden.blogspot.com/2015/08/towards-theory-of-reconstructionist.html
Sunday, August 2, 2015. Towards a Theory of Reconstructionist Religion (Part Three). In part one of this series. I set some groundwork and asked some questions. In part two. I looked at sources (especially written, but others as well), and how to treat them. Now, I'm pressing on with the gaps and how to fill them in. So that begs the question, how to fill in the many gaps? But that begs the question, where is that bulls-eye centered? The 1st Century Teutones? There could be enormous variation, even thoug...

Jön Upsal's Garden: "Folkish" does not mean "racist"
http://jonupsalsgarden.blogspot.com/2013/09/does-not-mean.html
Sunday, September 22, 2013. Folkish does not mean racist. This post has been a long time coming, because I've seen over my many years as an Ásatrúar and Théodsman the same, sometimes unspoken, sometimes quite loudly spoken, assertion that to be Folkish is to be a racist. Speaking as someone who is Folkish myself, I can say that this is not true, but such a simple assertion is not sufficient. Racism is defined as. This is a view that has been challenged in academia since it was first put forth, but Pooja ...

Tuesday, July 21, 2015. On this day in 1969, American Astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon. What an achievement of the American spirit and the human will. Let us follow up this great achievement and spread humanity to other worlds. Posted by Jön Upsal's Gardener at. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Why is this blog called "Jön Upsal's Garden"? Jön Upsal's Garden: Towards a Theory of Reconstructionist Religion (Part Two)
http://jonupsalsgarden.blogspot.com/2015/07/towards-theory-of-reconstructionist_19.html
Sunday, July 19, 2015. Towards a Theory of Reconstructionist Religion (Part Two). In part one of this series. I tried to set the stage with some initial questions to frame the issue of how to approach reconstructionist religion (specifically, reconstructionist Heathenry, but applicable to different strains of pre-Christian religion). I'm not exactly going to follow the questions raised in that first post as an outline, but will be referring to them (and hopefully providing some answers) as I progress.

Jön Upsal's Garden: HUAR doesn't speak for me
http://jonupsalsgarden.blogspot.com/2015/05/huar-doesnt-speak-for-me.html
Saturday, May 16, 2015. HUAR doesn't speak for me. I am Joseph, born in the United States, of English, Danish, Swedish, and Ukrainian descent. And “Heathens United Against Racism” (HUAR) doesn’t speak for me. I think people of every ethnicity, and every nationality, should be free to embrace the religious paths of their forefathers. You can’t have diversity without a sense of identity. I’m a proud member of the Asatru Folk Assembly. Posted by Jön Upsal's Gardener at. May 23, 2015 at 4:01 PM. Http:/ therp...

Of Axe and Plough. Musings from a Germanic polytheistic Pagan with Roman inclinations. Books, Links, and Resources. I am a contemporary polytheistic Pagan who utilizes reconstructionist-derived materials as a foundation for my practice and belief. My particular form of Paganism is focused on approaching two traditions, Anglo-Saxon and Roman, with some sprinklings of interconnected Continental practice as it fits within those two larger practices. Of Axe and Plough. Musings from a Germanic polytheistic Pagan with Roman inclinations. Books, Links, and Resources. Accessibility, Technical Jargon, and Anti-Intellectualism Within Contemporary Paganism. Simply because that is one of the ways in which the religion is explored beyond introductory material. I was struck, while reading this, that many of the above issues are also issues for other Mediterranean polytheisms. In a private message, I was relating this discussion to Conor. Is it because these mo...

Jön Upsal's Garden: July Garden Update
http://jonupsalsgarden.blogspot.com/2015/07/july-garden-update.html
Monday, July 27, 2015. With the miserably cold Spring that we had here in the Garden State, and the unnaturally cold June and most of July, I'm surprised that the garden is doing as well as it is. But anyway, here are some pics as of today. Tomatoes and peppers to the left, then corn, cucumbers lower right, and pumpkins behind them. (You can see the vé waaay off to the far right if you look closely, and that lattice thing in the far center is the seiðhjallr.). The first actual pumpkin! Of Axe and Plough.

Jön Upsal's Garden: Why is this blog called "Jön Upsal's Garden"?
http://jonupsalsgarden.blogspot.com/p/why-is-this-blog-called-jon-upsals.html
Why is this blog called "Jön Upsal's Garden"? Obviously, my name is not Jön Upsal. The name of this blog comes from a Danish folk-tale, as recorded in Scandinavian Folk-Lore: Illustrations of the Traditional Beliefs of the Northern Peoples Selected and Translated. By William Craigie, originally published in 1896. Here is the tale itself:. Whereas in other places they say "But Jesus though! A man who now lives in Copenhagen is said to have seen J.
