Ryan was initially dropped to lower settings on the ventilator, but he was boosted back up to his pre-surgery settings, because the pulmonary Dr was concerned about his CO2 levels. He has been doing fine with the changes. He will not be transferring to the floor until his chest tube is removed, so we will be here in the ICU for at least another day as well. His spine is now corrected from over 115 degrees down to only 40 degrees – that was about as good as they could have hoped for. On the one hand, we got our first post-op smile from him tonight, and that was the best! Back on to the positive – he has had his remaining drain and IVs removed – he is now tube-free (except his trach, of course! Here is a picture of him in his brace:.
