Eight Things I'm Dreading About My Daughter Starting High School - Shambolic Living
http://shambolicliving.com/2012/08/16/eight-things-im-dreading-about-my-daughter-starting-high-school
Eight Things I’m Dreading About My Daughter Starting High School. August 16, 2012. We are heading into the tail end of the year (how fast are the months flying by? It’s one of those years with a “chapter closing”. You know the type, a life stage when you do things for “the last time”, when you know you won’t be going back. 1 There will be no more gathering with the gaggle of mums outside the classrooms. While I’ve done less and less of that lately there has still been the odd chance to catch up...3 The k...
Year 12 Begins - Shambolic Living
http://shambolicliving.com/2014/10/11/year-12-begins
October 11, 2014. D has started Year 12. I think I’m going to take up serious drinking. In fact, I don’t know why Liquorland doesn’t have a discount card for HSC parents, it would be a marketing goldmine. I’ve given her the pep talk. We started off strong, she even did some study on day one. Now if we can just get through the next 364 days we’ll be sweet. There’s a site which interviewed successful Australians about their final year at school called There’s Life After. My fault Lost school book? I will c...
There's Been An Interruption to Normal Transmission - Shambolic Living

There’s Been An Interruption to Normal Transmission. October 31, 2014. Clearly, I’m not meant to be organised. For only the second time in the three-year history of this blog I had a week-long editorial plan. I KNEW what I was going to be blogging about each day. This is vastly different to my normal mode of blogging which basically is start with a blank screen, begin typing about the first random thought that comes to mind. Grief had other plans. However, yesterday I am standing in the supermarket prett...
The F Series - Taking The Circuitous Staircase - Shambolic Living

The F Series – Taking The Circuitous Staircase. November 3, 2014. As I predicted, Julie Bishop’s refusal to embrace the F word. Drew criticism. One of the most interesting pieces about this issue was by Paula Matthewson over at Women’s Agenda, T he real reason women of the right will never call themselves feminists. Matthewson’s piece gives a succinct insight into how the labeling is a pointless exercise. A criticism of Bishop for not having children. It is simply a statement that when you can have s...
The F Series - Who's Wearing The Right Label? - Shambolic Living
http://shambolicliving.com/2014/10/29/f-series-lessons-wilderness
The F Series – Who’s Wearing The Right Label? October 29, 2014. Why did I lose my attachment to the term feminist? A variety of reasons, but here’s two of them. I don’t need feminism because I made my own. Choice to be a stay at home mother and my working husband should not be harassed. I don’t need feminism B/C men are not our enemy. They are our fathers, sons and brothers. Belittling them helps no-one. I don’t need feminism because I don’t want my daughters growing up around slutty feminists. Yesterday...
Reading This Week - The Happiest Refugee - Anh Do - Shambolic Living
http://shambolicliving.com/2012/01/05/reading-this-week-the-happiest-refugee-anh-do
Reading This Week – The Happiest Refugee – Anh Do. January 5, 2012. In Australia there is a long-running debate on what to do about asylum seekers. In particular, the people who pay money to people smugglers to take to the open sea in a bid to seek refuge in Australia. It’s a political hot-potato, with the issue whipped into a frenzy by a variety of shock-jocks and media commentators. It’s a complex and emotive situation on both sides of the argument. The following years are no picnic. The courageous...
What I'd Miss (And What I Wouldn't) - Shambolic Living

What I’d Miss (And What I Wouldn’t). January 20, 2015. The Most of Nora Ephron. And for this post I am blatently stealing her idea of writing a list of what I’d miss if I was to die (read Nora’s lists here). Now I’m not planning on checking out soon, I’m not even sick, despite my repeated visits to the doctor with what I consider to be life threatening ailments (it’s stress Janine, your life is very stressful right now). What I Will Miss. The sound of rain on the roof. Lunches overlooking the river.
We Survived The First Christmas - Shambolic Living
http://shambolicliving.com/2014/12/26/survived-first-christmas
We Survived The First Christmas. December 26, 2014. Well we got through it. The first Christmas without you. There was the usual chaos. Hippie Child was tasked with recreating your famous potato salad the one that you’ve served up every year since we’ve been in Port Macquarie to great compliments from the family. There was some pressure. I forgot to buy the bacon. I thought there was a chance I could be joining you. 8220;I CAN’T MAKE IT WITHOUT THE BACON”. Princess Child’s very expensive camera was...
So Things Got A Little Freaky - Shambolic Living
http://shambolicliving.com/2015/01/21/things-got-little-freaky
So Things Got A Little Freaky. January 21, 2015. Talk about signs, this one was a bit out there. I’m trying to get this bloody house finished so I was googling renderers to finish the brickwork, there was one there called Simon Williams (how weird that he would have your name)! The only one who called backed? You guessed it. Simon Williams. I started with “my husband was owner building our house but last year he drowned in a rock fishing accident and …. 8220;Well yes, it was”. Mamma’s Don’t Let Your Kids...

Trials of a wanna-be-published writer. About Heather B. Costa. Flash Fiction 52 Challenge. July 10, 2015 · 10:00 am. Thoughts for Friday – 10th July 2015. I left you on a cliff-hanger last weekend, hinting that my week in London was an eventful one and believe me, it was. After speaking to my college tutor, I decided to do a microteaching session on CPR because, as you know, everyone likes a good pump and a blow. Our college group consisted on nine women and one man, who just happened to be a fit and hun...

Find me on Facebook. View my complete profile. Thursday, September 9, 2010. Newborn Beckett {Sun Prairie Portrait Photographer}. Have I said lately how much I love newborns? Not only are they fun to shoot (and exhausting, but so so fun), they are fun to edit! Here's my newest newborn that I shot on Sunday. He was not a fan of being naked, and had a hard time falling asleep at first, but after awhile, I finally wore him out! His older brother was my very first newborn. You can see those pictures here.
