In August of 1994 I took a class at the John Campbell Folk School in North Carolina with a good friend Sam Prather. Sam and his wife Mary Ethel and I stayed in their pop-up camper. The first day of the class the instructor took us outside to his truck where he introduced us to a large log that was to become part of the chair (after a bit of splitting).
