Heidi was born in 1955 in White River, Mpumalanga where she grew up and completed her schooling. She then went on to qualify as a high school teacher, teaching German and French. In 1981 she married Otto and stopped teaching in order to raise a family. Heidi always knew that one day she would paint and once the last of her children had started school she embarked on her art career.
