Monday, 19 September 2016. Guest Post: Mark West - A Web Presence. This week I'm delighted to welcome author Mark West to the blog. A good blog has an identity (even if it’s to be eclectic, as Sue says mine is) and it needs to be somewhere that you, the reader, wants to visit every now and again to hang out. And long may those good bloggers continue! My blog - www.markwest.org.uk. Away from writing, he enjoys reading, walking, cycling, watching films and playing Dudeball with his son. Today I welcome Kar...

Elaina James: Guest Post: Rachel Dove - Writing time
http://elainajames.blogspot.com/2016/05/guest-post-rachel-dove-writing-time.html
Monday, 2 May 2016. Guest Post: Rachel Dove - Writing time. How wrong I was! Looking back, I don't know how I ever fitted in a job as well as studying and everything else. I am getting to grips with everything now, so I thought I would share some tips I have picked up. NaNoWriMo: write a novel in a month. I fail this every year, but I did have a great start to my current WIP by taking part. 50,000 words in a month. Great support and encouragement, and well worth a go. Get it delivered. Bills? The Chic Bo...

Monday, 10 October 2016. Social Media For Writers. Photo courtesy of Anita Chapman. On Saturday I set off on my writer related travels again. This time to London, for NeetsMarketing's Social Media Course for Writers, run by the lovely Anita Chapman. It seems fitting that I met Anita through social media. After learning lots of useful tips from her NeetsMarketing blog. I invited her to be a guest on my blog back in March, and she wrote a fantastic post for me on Taking Twitter to the Next Level. How to cr...

Elaina James: All About Me
http://elainajames.blogspot.com/p/hello.html
Hello I’m Elaina and I love to write. Okay so you kind of expected me to say that, given this blog is mostly going to be about my writing (and books I love to read), nevertheless it’s still true. I was the kid who was always making up stories and poems for fun. Yep, not homework, just for fun. However, strangely I chose a completely different career path, I’m an accountant (not really much call for creativity there). I hadn't even really thought about them, I’d just written down the ideas that were...

Elaina James: November 2016
http://elainajames.blogspot.com/2016_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 15 November 2016. I have a new job! I'll be the accountant for a library. I think that's about as close as my day job and my writing can get, at least until writing becomes my day job anyway. A girl can dream, can't she? Negotiations have now commenced for my start date in my new role. As it's all part of the same organisation, it's effectively one giant game of tug of war between my current boss and my new one. But whilst it's incredibly flattering and a real boost to my self-esteem to ...With ...

Elaina James: Nothing but the truth: when a novelist writes non-fiction by Helen Barrel
http://elainajames.blogspot.com/2016/06/nothing-but-truth-when-novelist-writes.html
Thursday, 30 June 2016. Nothing but the truth: when a novelist writes non-fiction by Helen Barrel. By signing the contract for Poison Panic. I was promising Pen and Sword, my publisher, that I would write 60,000 words. I thought back to the longest piece of non-fiction I’d written up until that point – my undergraduate dissertation on Agatha Christie (can you see a theme developing? 8211; and that was 12,000 words. How the heck was I going to write 60,000? I knew I’d ‘got’ Poison Panic. Is set, so by add...

Elaina James: A Writer's Life
http://elainajames.blogspot.com/2016/05/a-writers-life.html
Monday, 30 May 2016. I have come to realise that my ambition of being a writer involves a lot of waiting. The frantic activity of typing like mad to get the submission in on time is offset by the weeks, if not months, of waiting to hear the results. Fortunately I’m a patient woman and don’t mind waiting for things. What I struggle with however are the overwhelming nerves that all this waiting creates. I think there may be a slight flaw in my plan…. Labels: A Writers Life. Tweet to @Elaina James. As the v...
