Journal of a suburban gardener in Central Florida. Laquo; Wordless Wednesday – August Heat. An Overdue Update on my Cowpeas. Posted August 4, 2012 by Skip Slone in Fall Gardening. I would like to draw your attention to the two peppers on the far right of the tray in the foreground of the first picture below. Those are Black Hungarian peppers, which produce tasty, medium-to-hot peppers and can be used as ornamental plants. Notice the dark coloration? And the third in this post. Careful readers or keen obs...

Journal of a suburban gardener in Central Florida. Laquo; Flood relief. Posted August 13, 2012 by Skip Slone in Weather Events. To make a long story short, here’s what my front yard looked like the morning after the storm. The following picture provides a good sense of the power of this storm, by showing one of the trees next to the garage door. The next picture is interesting. It’s hard to tell by looking, but there are actually two cars in this picture. Can you see the red one? As a postscript, I am ha...

Journal of a suburban gardener in Central Florida. Laquo; An Overdue Update on my Cowpeas. Posted August 12, 2012 by Skip Slone in My Garden. When I checked on the seedlings the next morning, the tray they were sitting in was filled to the rim, and it was obvious that the plants had taken a beating. I didn’t think to take a picture at the time, though. I just dumped the water, tidied up the plants and refilled their little peat pots with fresh Mel’s Mix. Here’s hoping they have seen the worst of it!

Journal of a suburban gardener in Central Florida. Laquo; Awaiting Autumn. An Overdue Update on my Cowpeas. Posted August 10, 2012 by Skip Slone in Legumes. The plant in the next picture is one of only three plants still living from the first wave. The purple hulled peas you see in this picture are the same ones you see in the basket above. The first patch is the now infamous “bare patch” in my butterfly garden. That’s it for now. Until next time, happy gardening! Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Fill in your...

a fairy tale of roses | Gardening in the Lines
https://gardeninginthelines.wordpress.com/2012/06/24/1908
Gardening in the Lines. A diary of gardens. A fairy tale of roses. This rose, which is Floral Fairy Tale, opened right in the middle of an intense heat wave a few days ago. My very first rose bloom! And it’s a gorgeous one! I was expecting this to be a little more pink, but I love the light peach so I’m not at all disappointed. I counted just over 30 buds on this plant, and Pomponella has double that… is this even possible after planting bareroots less than 2 months ago? Isn’t it a beauty? It is a beauty!

2 : something of special value handed on from one generation to another – Merriam-Webster Dictionary. Grandma’s Freshman Journal: “Oh Gee, how I love High School! Post graduation, grandma was married. As my math makes out, grandma was married before she graduated from high school, actually. She would have been having babies and caring for her budding new family from that time forward. Her education took on a new twist- a practical turn. How does one feed a family on a depression income? But when it came ...

Welcome to Heirlooms Again
I use your familys treasured fabrics to create new and beautiful items; among these are very special, custom made Christmas ornaments. This ornament was made from a grandmothers taffeta and lace bridesmaids dress from 1954, and is draped with hand strung Czech glass beads. Each of her five granddaughters now has a prized personal reminder of her grandparents most special day. Download the Heirlooms Again™ brochure. This site is a celebration of heirloom fabrics and their rebirth as new family traditions.
