The town itself has major Chinese and Burmese influences with a conservative population. Canyon and the Dam. Burma - Visa Run. The Hospital in Ranong operates a very nice spa and massage centre. It is in a pleasant building across the road from the Fire Station. They do an excellent Thai massage for around 350 baht for men and I understand the treatments for women are only slightly more expensive. I've used their services for a few years and they have always been professional.

Canyon and the Dam. Burma - Visa Run. Don't bother about fishing in the river and streams the pollution and chemical runoff from the crab farms is pretty powerful,. Try around the new port area or hire a long tail and try your luck. A couple of guys organise deep sea trips but they depend on demand. The dive boats are not really equiped for fishing. Beach fishing from the islands is probably the safest choice.

Canyon and the Dam. Burma - Visa Run. Ranong is a small provincial town which is a bit of a backwater and until recently transport was an issue. Now it has an air service and there is talk (long running) of a railway which may happen one day. The highway from Chuompon is being upgraded to dual carriage way and progress is currently to about 20 km from Ranong. See the menu for options.

Canyon and the Dam. Burma - Visa Run. Gambling in Ranong is illegal. The Andaman Club is a resort in Burma with a Casino and Golf Course and doubles as an easy visa run, Costs about 800 baht for the visa and boat trip but you have a short (90 min) wait between boats to get back. Treasure Island is a small island in the delta between Thailand and Burma and caters for Thai gamblers. There were no immigration facilities the last time I checked.

Canyon and the Dam. Burma - Visa Run. Ranong appears to have secured a regular air service, Okay, it is a propellor driven plane but it leaves from Suvarnhahumi and takes about 90 mins. The flight takes about 90 mins and goes twice a day. Book early for the best deals. Ranong's airport is 26 km out of town so try and arrange a lift.
